I tried to pass up this "investment in my future".... I've collected a bit of this extrusion stuff. A lot of its beat up, but when and if I get to building frames, I figure I'll have plenty of small stuff for jigs. I wish I'd had this technology around when I was a shop rat making stuff for a living.

^^^^^^^^ Looks like you have the beginnings of a framebuilding jig made from 80/20 aluminum extrusion.

I've got a bunch of smaller 80/20 to work with. I figure when its time, I can buy a large cross section as a main beam, and have some confidence hasn't been on a dumpster ride.

A pile of 80/20 is a great thing for an inventive person to have...

Kind of a jack pot today with all sorts of goodies. A batch of Silca pumps (some need rebuilt), 2 wheels with internal hubs (One Faraday and one Shimano Alfine), about 20 boxes of spokes of assorted sizes, a few wheels (2 Mavic Reflex tubulars) and a 1994 Schwinn Crosstrail with the goofy Glen bars pretty much in original condition and just needs a good clean and tune. And a cool brake amplifier display from back in the day for bike shops. I have never seen one of those. Fun stuff!

brandenjs Congrats on the score. I've got a couple of those 1994 Schwinn Hybrids. The "Glen" bars foam covers seem to be a problem. I overhauled one of mine a couple of years back and bought some foam grip tubes online. The stuff I got has not held up well and cracked and deteriorated after only a year or two. There were other sources, but not at the longer lengths needed for the Schwinn.

Stopped at the LBS to pick up my Gitane Interclub frame. It looks great and as usual he didn't charge enough. I mentioned I had gone on a Zeus Criterium buying spree. He motioned for me to follow him into the side room, he reached in a box and pulled out a Zeus Criterium seat post. It's a 26.8 and my seat tube is a 27.2 so I'll have to shim it 0,2mm or .008". I ordered a shim pack of assorted 3" X 6" brass shims. It has 6 shims in .002" increments including .008". It has about the same "patina" as the frameset and the rest of the components and should clean up fairly well.

I am thinking of just using bar wrap on this one. The foam has an appeal but for regular use it's not very durable. These are cool bikes for not being very high end. Standard package is pretty cool.

Here is a Wynn cyclocross from the local coop. I've got the frame cleaned up, the fork has been checked headset rebuilt, still need to check remove the cranks and bb. I think this is going to work out good.

From what they said at the coop it's made local to Seattle circa 2000, it's made of Reynolds 653.

Now I'm glad I did not buy a Cramerotti jiggle back.

I went to throw some scrap metal in the recycling bin at the local dump. When I peered into the skip to see what else was in there (as you do...) there was a very rusty old roadster with a Brooks Professional saddle. Naturally the saddle came home with me.... Pictures later.

hazetguy Nice save. Whether you flip or harvest, you win. Too nice to be trashed.

Please don't cannibalize that bike, or even do a part swap, sell it like it is, it's a vintage bike and it should remain complete and original as possible. Clean it up extremely well, polish the paint and all aluminum stuff, including the spokes with a wax, make it shine like crazy and sell it.

Oh my, things did not work out as I hoped on that one. The Wynn had some extensive issues. The fork was bent forward on the drive side a. 1/8", front triangle not bad, drive side seatstay bent in 3mm, brake bridge push out forward. and the nds rear canti post bent on and down.

I was able to align the fork. I got the front triangle in. The nds seat stay I got to open from 127 to 130mm, but needed to correct the front triangle from the effort it took to move the seatstay. I corrected the front again. I was able to align the brake bridge to center plane.

What did not work was the bent canti post, it snapped like twig

Was gonna list this in ebay/Craigslist finds but then thought some more and here it is, at less than 100 bucks,,,



Pretty good shape, just needs a new bb axle. Also mismatched wheels, Suntour Cyclone hub and Wolber rims in rear, Shimano 105 hub and Mavic (?) rim in front.

Well this fell into the "I've never had one or seen one" category so I had to pick it up. German made Staiger Trento 70 year anniversary edition. Heavy tank and not the highest quality, but it had some cool features. Huret Svelto RD, half step double crank and a Daimon front light that works really well. Anyone know a good way to find a date for this one?
