Yeah, I've had to remind my wife about that a few times in the past. I've told every one of our friends that she's
the Imelda Marcos of south Calgary. Eventually she got the message and doesn't bother me so often now about my bikes
.......only about once a month now.:lol:

this weekend's scores

I'm working to thin the herd a bit and probably shouldn't be bringing anything home, but sometimes I can't help myself. Two framesets followed me home over the last couple days. First is this HUGE 1988 Basso Loto. Full SLX & a very late-80s Jamaican paint job. It was tucked into a pile at a demolition sale:
https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...b41fdeed5.jpeg

It needs some cleaning up but for $30 I figured it would be worth putting in some elbow grease & reselling. Anyone 6'4" need an italian frame?

Second also probably would have ended up at the dump, and also set me back $30:
https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...cffebc754.jpeg

'77 Centurion Pro Tour (in my size, as if I need another one). This frame's seen a bit of rattle-can respray, but it's such a nice riding bike I'll probably strip the paint, polish up the chrome, and mask/repaint. I always liked the '76/'77 robin's egg blue version of this bike; hopefully I can come close to recreating it.

"this HUGE 1988 Basso Loto"

LOLOL.No kidding about the HUGE thing. I'm 6 feet tall exactly and I'd need a stepladder to get aboard that bike..
Nice snags for a total of $60 though. Enjoy.

I have always wanted one of these "Team Jamaica" Bassos, but even though I'm 6'04" (or at least I used to be -stupid gravity...), that one looks too big for me.

No front wheel but no sign of frame or fork damage. Original white Concor saddle and Sakae post was included.

Now I need to decide if I need 2 Circuits. Probably not…

That looks like a great bike, but is much too large for me. I need a “short circuit.“

Sorry about that, couldn’t help myself.

daverup 07-04-24 01:51 PM

Definitely worth saving, parts alone if you're tired of Circuits.

RustyJames 07-04-24 02:17 PM

I stand corrected about damage…

Miyata 1000LT find

Seller listed a 1000LT frame for sale among others. Based on a couple poor pics, it was obviously a very mistreated ‘91 Miyata 1000LT.
https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...9dda9165d.jpeg
https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...974dbd3ea.jpeg
Too small for me, but I love the Miyata 1000’s (have two currently) and hate to see one so abused, so made the hour drive and bought it for $80. Seller tried to increase the agreed upon price when I got there because they added a back wheel! It’s a project, paint and decals are rough, but components all are good and I have a touring wheelset in the garage for it. So buff, polish, new expendables, new saddle and seatpost, and it will have a new life. And bonus, I even have a Miyata pantographed stem in the stock size in the garage that will go on it!

As purchased

Miyata stem

Eventual disposition of the bike after refurbish will either be to a friend or family member, or sell it.

curbtender 07-08-24 10:43 AM

Nothing like a bonus wheel. I'm guessing you didn't pay for it.

Not a chance! Although I will be able to use the 9 speed cassette from it.

that Basso def needs to be resurrected, but I agree it's taller than most (if any) 6'-4" riders will fit. Hope somebody gives it a new life!

SoCaled 07-09-24 05:01 PM

Couldn't help myself! Great price and they offered to deliver! Way too small for me, was planning to use for parts and sell the frame, but (much to my surprise) the bike is fully good to go, now I am not so sure? Going to check with a few friends see if someone needs a (tiny) sweet ride. From what I can tell original parts except, bars, saddle and pedals & stem was upgraded. Terry saddle is super comfy, might have to try @RCMoeur technique for re-covering saddles. (By habit, I keep mentioning people, even though they won't know!)

Last year, around September(?), I decided to risk a ride in the possible rain (one choice), take a route I don't normally take (another choice), use a short-cut I might otherwise not (another choice), and was asked by a worker if I wanted a bike? His customer had given it to him and it was thrown on top of junk in his truck. It was a stock Schwinn Wayfarer with light wear/damage https://bestbikeselect.com/wp-conten...0/image-39.png (mine is obviously not that color, pic for reference).

With a little imagination and experimentation:

Converted one-piece crank to standard square taper. Semi-horizontal drop outs lent themselves well to single speed. 43/20(16t fixed) gearing.

Giant Cadex - garage sale

Last day of a garage sale and this was still sitting there. Offered $100 and took it home.

Have zero knowledge on these old CF frames, but looks to have no damage, and overall condition is quite nice, seems to be well taken care of.

It’s my size so it’ll be a rider.

Those were introduced in 1987 by Giant on the market and were a best seller. This one seems from 1993-1994 due to the 105 sc equipment. A friend of mine had one that he turned into a triathlon machine with Zip 808 wheels and dura ace 7800 tranmission, he still uses his bike for triathlon competitions. It is a very stable and very good handling bike according to him.

Smokinapankake 07-13-24 11:06 AM

I always thought that generation of 105 was really pretty. In my very limited experience, 105 was always a greatly underrated and under appreciated group set. Nice!

Great snag, despite the many Bstone's with flat crowns, they do not come along very often at all. ;)

The 105sc was superior to the campy athena of these years and provided better shifting and better braking.

appreciate that- thanks for the info! Agree regarding shimano 105- often under appreciated groupset punching above its weight.

of what magnitude is her footwear collection?

has she covered the walls of the home with portraits of Christian Louboutin...or perhaps Gianmarco Lorenzi?

When you say "tiny", what does that mean exactly? And are those 26" wheels?
