This one was literally "caught" from the "dump"
Overlook cliff/hillside was littered with trash, impromptu dump https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...cc5f7dbb48.jpg decided it needed to be dealt with, went trash fishing https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...5e2c59cd6e.jpg Got done with most of the hillside and caught my prize https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...db91b3e987.jpg Hauled the trash and the catch out off the beach https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...ba755ddd1d.jpg back at the lab https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...6edfc7d51b.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...1849752551.jpg |
If that old fellow could only talk, what a tale it could tell! Why, why, why throw a classic frame over the clift?

Catch
1985 Schwinn Voyageur SP As purchased from original owner. Mostly original except for pedals (Campagnolo pedals are nice though), tires (the 27x1 have to go), and bar wrap. Bright sun makes it look black, but it is deep blue. Cannondale panniers and Blackburn front lowrider rack are unused. A thorough rebuilding is in the short term plans. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...1bcc237c_k.jpg |

Free pile saves. GT ZR5.0 and Cannondale 10. GT is rideable. Nothing special but I'll find riders for them.

I have a pair of those panniers. If you remove all the hardware and internal stiffeners, you can toss them in the washing machine and they will come out looking like like new. I have revived a bunch of nylon bags that way.

My wife was taking a walk, called me a block from our house. "There's a lady putting a Stumpjumper out on the curb. You should check it out."
One minute later... The chain was rusted into rebar and the tires were rotten, but apparently it hadn't been left outside for the 30 years since it was new. Two hours and $175 later at the bike shop, a perfect 1994 Stumpjumper in my wife's size, replacing her Cannondale of the same vintage. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...fb6889a972.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...e05484def6.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...59d663d28f.jpg |

Brought home a 1990 Fiori Roma (Norco) Thursday, then a 1998 GT Attack Friday.
https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...a0609c9c3a.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...774f7b0882.jpg Looked at the GT ad because I've been interested in a triple triangle frame. Then I noticed the Campagnolo brifter shape and a picture of a Chorus brake caliper on what was originally a 105 bike. No mention of the components, but most everything except the left brifter, head bearings and FD are Campy or Mavic. Darn, the stem's too long. |
Well this was a nice find. My first Ciocc and sadly it doesn't fit me. Besides a little surface rust on the chain stay, it is in pretty awesome shape. Full Campy group, Regal saddle, Columbus SLX frame and some pretty cool Hutchinson Postal Service race team tires. Is there anyone that knows how to date these? I know they came as framesets so trying to date the Campy group probably wouldn't help.

It fits me! 55-56? Rather, what a nice find. I love the graphics and paint scheme. Sorry, can't help with dating.

Also, perhaps you can contact Ciocc? don't know whether or not there is continuity but I found a website: https://www.ciocc.it/contact/

Looks like early 90's to me, is the top tube routing internal? Nice bike.

I have a canpy 8-speed from 1997, so that might help you place it in time. |

Trash day find 98 7500 as found except I removed the wide saddle. Tires and seat as found look new. Gripshift covered with electrical tape are gooey underneath.
Rides and shifts fine Only overhauled front hub so far. (also posted to Multitrack thread)https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...6aa7f38866.jpg |
I wasn't looking for another bike, but with Arni Nashbar's passing last week, I said that if I ever came across a Nashbar bike, I would seriously consider adding it to my fleet. Today, I found one at the Memory Lane bike swap in Bowling Green, Ohio. This swap meet is heavily biased toward muscle bikes and balloon tire tank bikes, so there usually aren't very many road bikes to look at. But it is not far from home, so I try to go when they have the spring and fall swaps. This bike looks like it was ridden for a bit when it was new, then it was stored away in a basement or garage for the next 40 years. The paint is in really good condition and it should clean up nicely. Seat post and stem are not stuck. Nashbar used to sell bikes under their name and import bikes and frames from European makers. The Nashbar branded bikes were usually a really good value, with top quality tubing and components but selling for a lot less than the more well known names.

That would have been awesome to find it the dump, but this was more of a catch of the day find. It cost me a little bit, but I am just thrilled to come across one in such good shape. I mean how often do these come up in estate auctions?
