What a coincidence! I just brought home a Cannondale Black Lightning
Trying to decide what to do with it, along the lines of definitely putting it on the road for a fun time.

As it came to me.
I definitely didn't need another set of wheels BUT the hubs to rims are absolutely purrrr-fect. As are the head set and bottom bracket. It's my first road bike and I haven't had good times trying drop bars in the past. But, these Nitto bars are just beautiful. I'll start a thread, soon, on this one, figuring out how much I'll keep it road and if it'll become something different.

Four bikes in five days!
1996 Cannondale R600 in matte viper red
Missing wheel, ding in the top tube, and all the various problems you might find in a $40 bike

Stuck Team LeMond seat post came out with an hour's work this morning. PB Blaster works great and is easy to find.

What is the tube decal (?) with four colored propeller?

That would have been sold as a frameset and built up from whatever the owner had or wanted. Full DB5531 in midnight blue with chrome dropout faces sure sounds like the model Michael's Cyclery called the Competition 531:

Nice score for $15!
Search for threads about the Raleigh-sonic bikes, like this one:

A BMX guy I trade with sent me a link to a free pile a couple of blocks from me and asked if I'd retrieve this Mongoose for him. They also had another bike when I got there. Think I got the better one. Both had spent time in the bushes. After on the Redline 29er.

I actually noticed the same when looking at the back cover - His bags are "Handsome & Durable" Hers "Add a beautiful town & country touch" But somehow I did not register the mouth agape stare on the front cover, until your post. I guess not too surprising for a 61 year old ad?

His bags are also for important business things, and hers are for the shopping.
The insanity CONTINUES! My 5th bike this month.
1985 Centurion LeMans RS - I spent a lot of time tailing my long time riding buddy on his bought new '86 RS, until he got the Campy Cannondale that I ended up inheriting.
His was aqua instead of black.
The bike sat for sale for a while at $50 (with "sat in the yard" warning) and I wanted it, but too many bikes... Then, this morning it was $40.

It wasn't until I got there that I saw the nice looking Origin 8 drillium levers (hoods are available!) on Philippe TdF (D357) bars

and the Selle Anatomica X leather saddle

Almost new Continentals, too.
Paint chips, silver spray on the fork and stays, and a chain that looked like it was dredged from a ship wreck.

Even though leaving the Selle Anatomica seat outside was a bad call on the part of PO, it was a very impressive score for $40.

A chain and it would be rolling, but I think I'll repaint the fork and stay ends and downgrade the special components first.
Probably take the bars and levers off this $25 Nishiki Modulus (and trainer) I picked up last week.
So I guess it's actually 5-1/2 bikes this month, but the Nishiki doesn't fit

Well I snatched this one before It went into the scrap heap at the recyclers, but I can't ride it and don't want it either. But It is up for grabs if anyone is interested. It is a cool old Viscount with the upgraded version of the death fork. Paint work done by Crayola and is a different kind of paint design.

Cool paint scheme by what looks like Crayola.

Upgraded death fork with the reinforced solid aluminum connection and pinned.

The real reason I grabbed it. The crank and Bottom bracket that some folks might find interesting for a build.

Completing an earlier haul!
The friend who bestowed tools, a 2013 Trek Madone and a ‘99 Schwinn Peloton equipped with 9-speed Veloce along with a pile of parts and tools reached out to me with the SECOND Peloton - seen here reunited with its wheels and bars after I swapped out the damaged stem.

Bar tape and cages must go! I may replace the fork with a steel unit …
It had been left with a damaged Deda stem in place. I forgot to get a photo of the stem binder bolt - the hex head had split so that Allen keys could not grab it. A drill made short work of that. Aluminum is perhaps NOT a good choice there …

Think I may wait till I find another stem and some bars i like better before putting this one on the road ….

I bought this Black Lightning from someone in NJ 2 yrs ago. Found out after he parted out the bike and wouldn't give me a deal on the parts. I ended up updating the components and it is very light and rides great for a 35 yr old bike.

So I was out on a ride, near the summit of THE toughest climb around, and my phone starts ringing. It’s my friend with the closed down LBS. Seems he needs to clear out his storage unit ASAP, and so I finish the ride, shower and go over there.
Today’s haul -

A sprawl of stuff …

The Bottechia was a thrown-in freebie. The Fuji has a nice Jim Blackburn front rack I have plans for …

Trashed bottom bracket with stripped crank extractor threads … this may wind up as a parts donor …

Cool, but tiny Bottechia

c.2014 or so Trek 7.3FX hybrid that is just too small for me - but all it needs is cleaning, lube and adjustment
I paid the princely sum of $20 for the Trek 7.3FX; the rest of the bikes were $5 each. Not show are the 7-speed 105/Mavic 192 wheels (destined for my Lighthouse!) and the Specialized-by-Nitto stem, drop bars and aero levers destined for my Trek 850 project!
I spent $40 on old bikes - and another $80 on cables, housing, tubes, rim strips, gloves and other sundries.

Deals like this are a large part of why I'm such a fan of these older bikes: a lot of the time people just want to clear out their crowded basement/garage and will practically give away a nice old bike that, with a little maintenance, could be at least 80% as good as a new one.
This is a mid-eighties Bianchi Sport SS I just snagged for $20. It has a double-butted Ishiwata Magny fork and frame, and Shimano 105 "golden arrow" parts. It's not the most prestigious bike, these are kind of midrange parts, but I couldn't pass up on it for just $20. I'll probably end up donating and then fixing it at the co-op I frequent, as I've already got too many personal projects. I've done this before with a Miyata 610 and Panasonic Touring Deluxe that were too small for me, but I really wanted to refurbish.

And this Windsor Carrera sport I got a couple days ago for $25... I won't really call it a deal, it's in quite poor shape, but I'll make use of the rear derailleur and bar-cons, and I'd like to experiment in the future with painting, so with the lovely lugs I think it would make for an interesting and worth painting "test bike."

I volunteer at a local coop and I find myself rescuing bikes similar to this one. I prefer someone having a bike that I know is solid.
This one looks like a perfect example.
