Unknown.
I purchased it as a NOS frameset that was never built up. It still had the original price tag on the bottom bracket shell. ($420.00)
130mm rear hub spacing, vertical rear dropouts. That's about all I can tell you about it.

Saw these this morning on CL, and decided to email anyway. I just knew they'd be gone by the time I got off of work. Well, around 2 pm my phone rang, and the number matched the one on the ad. My wife had gone to work at 1, so when I got home I ended up borrowing my neighbors truck to go pick them up. $150 a piece, but the smaller one I can sell and get at least half of the money back, if not more. The serial numbers are USELESS. so faint they can't even be read by the wax method. If all else fails, I will chip the paint off.
He seems to remember buying the black one in 1978, but I dunno. Superbe cranks, and Campy Nuovo gran sport, but with Dia Compe brakes, and more modern AGC levers. Mismatched wheels I can fix, I have a set of dark ano's with Campy hubs, that will look the part at least. It has 27 inch wheels?? I love it though, and it will be fixed up as a nice rider.
The grey one is a lower end, like 400 series would be later on? Silstar cranks, VX RD.. Weinmann concave rims with Shimano hubs in black. Under the dirt it looks almost perfect. No chips or rust that I can see.
Until I can read the serial numbers, I guess the model is going to be Impossible to find out, right? Both are Ishiwata O22.

Well, I finally got the black one in some good light, and deciphered F4K9A12, off the BB. So it looks like a November 1979(probably 1980?) model 510 in a 24 inch frame size. In other words, perfect size for me, and a decent mid range bike which doesn't bother a me bit. i got some oil in the right spots, aired up the brand new tires the previous owner had installed, got rid of the Toupe monstrosity(Installed a Concor Super Corsa) and took it for a test ride. Aside from needing a total clean/lube/cable, it rides nicely. The Levin headset feels a little weird and tight in spots, so it will get rebuilt before too much longer.,,,,BD
It has strategic scratches and chips in the usual places, so maybe a repaint is in order. I already have four bikes that need new paint and decals, so it may be a while. The sparkle black should br fairly easy to reproduce.....

Looks like an 1980 or 1981 Trek 412. The decals on the seat tube place it before '82. If so, looks like an upgrade on the seat post.

I think the seatpost might have come from the 510, since it has the Campy bits on it. I have already swapped them. The one in the 510 was a cap top with no built in clamp. They both had the same owner, and the same size seat tube, so I just assumed that's what happened somewhere along the way. The 412 is going to get a good polishing and new cables, and go out the door. I wish the 510 was the clean one, but it saw more use.,,,,BD
After a quick soap and brush bath, lowering the stem, and swapping the saddle... Looking better already!

Also it was in better condition when I bought it. They cleaned it up.
Ahh i'll give a sneak peak at it, I shall take some Bike Pron pics, the Lock on this bike is awesome. lol

It's been a long time but I snagged two today, in two very different fashions. 10 dollars for each of them too!
First score is a Lotus America. I saw this riding around downtown 2 days ago and thought it was in the garbage, when I got closer I realized it belonged to a homeless man. I wanted to ask about the bike but I chickend out. For the past 2 days I have been driving by to see if he was still there and I mustered up the courage to ask if he would sell it. The answer was yes, so I asked how much and the answer was 10 dollars. At first I felt bad only giving him 10 dollars but in retrospect the bike is rough, plus it's a low end Lotus. No seat and a flat rear tire... and he was still riding it!! IN the hardest gear!!!
Hobo bars.... literally:

Cro-moly frame at least:

Hmmmm I wonder how this works??

My next find is a Fuji Tivoli. After searching garage sales all day and coming up empty I was heading home on a high from buying the lotus. 2 blocks from my house I see a bike shaped object... rats it's just a Mongoose. WAIT, is that a Fuji?? It's sort of ugly, but its decent. Shimano light action drive train, Shimano Exage aero brake levers and a good frame with forged dropouts. Again, 10 dollars on this one too.

WTF!!

The plan is to switch all the decent parts from the fuji onto the Lotus frame (my size). Build a nice lightweight city bike with upright bars and suntour bar end shifters I have laying around. I wish I had someone to high five right now!

That Lotus has chrome-moly tubes, so it's not a bottom-end model. What condition is the frame in?

Some scratches, but not too shabby. No dents, bends or rust. Glossy paint and good decals. I think it will polish up really well. I just wish it had nicer drop-outs... purely because it looks nicer. Still, I dig the overuse of their logo and the color scheme.

Nice catch. If it were me I'd consider giving the Fuji the quickie make ready with the remaining parts, (could even be a single speed locked in a decent gear) and then give it back to the homeless man.

That is a good call. It's either that or I have a Schwinn Continental that I thought about running down to him.

By the way, my location being hobo-camp is not an insult to this man. It's a quote from strangers with candy.

If you're gonna do that, it would probably be a good idea also to give him a decent ulock and key. Otherwise, that bike will be gone, and he'll be back where he started.
