How old is this Frejus?

Hi Classic & Vintage, I've just inherited a Frejus 10-speed that a friend was throwing away. Reynolds 531 tubing, chrome fork and dropouts, and tubie rims on campy hubs. Hubs/bb/headset all have a hole with a valve in it for lubrication. Below are some pics, could anyone help me figure out what year it is from?

Thank you C&V!

My guess would be sixties or early sixties based on the brake levers and saddle. It looks like a plastic unicantor. Thats a nice bike. You'll be wise to reglue or put new tires on. Repack the hubs. As far as I know its pretty hard to get Universal brake hoods for a reasonable price.

It will be a good rider in no time. What a score.

The Frejus serial no. chart places your bike as a 1965. Excellent find. Why would someone throw out a bike that has obviously been maintained for 40+ years?

He is an extreme pragmatist; i think he felt that there was no use in keeping a bike around that he was not going to ride (even though it's more than rideable!) I'm torn, guys. This is a serendipitous find, and next to my fixed road beater and my mountain bike, it feels nice to have a proper road bicycle (the claude butler in the picture belongs to someone else.) But jeez, it's not the kind of bike I would lock up just anywhere, diminishing its practical value to me somewhat. Keep/sell? Bear in mind that I have a long winter season and not a lot of storage space...

@ sorefeet, it's too bad I won't be able to find authentic hoods, the only part of the bike that's missing or not box-stock.

Pff. I throw away three or four bikes like that every week.

Not. I've never even touched a bike that nice. Luck E. Duck.

Beautiful bike, looks to be a bit older than mine (some have placed my Frejus at around '69-'71):

Yep! It's not that bright, the flash exaggerated it...it's a very deep blue. I bought it a few weeks ago, still need to overhaul the cranks and hub (it's been sitting indoors for decades, the grease is probably solidified by now) but it's a beauty of a bike. Also, mine has some non-stock components that were probably added later on down the line) (Nuovo Record rear derailleur, Record hubs, a really crappy Shimano FD that's standing in for the Record FD that's being repaired that I broke a screw inside of, and obviously the seat ...but I have the original "Italia" leather seat somewhere.)

Yours looks to be in great shape, probably around 1965 according to this chart: https://www.classicrendezvous.com/Ita...al_numbers.htm
Take some more pics!

!965 looks like the right date, but the fork looks suspiciously like a replacement. Do you have a picture of the fork crown area? For an Italian bike of that era (and just about any bike from that era, I would expect a "lugged" crown. The one on your Frejus looks like an integrated crown, but I can't clearly see it from the photo.

Also, the bend of the fork doesn't look right. it's too abrupt, kind of a straight section, bend, another straight section, not a nice smooth, sexy curve to the dropout like trashion's Frejus

I agree with jebejava, that fork doesn't look like an original. Wonder what happened to it? It should have the "swoop" with the chrome parts to match the rear seat/chainstays, and the crowned lug.
