I am going to guess Cromor mix...I am thinking they may have badged with SL if any were all SL. The 1987 ad distinguishes between the two among the various models from Super Sport, Circuit, Tempo, Prelude and Le Tour. And in the 1988 catalog, it is a bit weirdly organized, but distinguishes among the types. So my guess...Tenax =Cromor-Matrix.

For the record....I LOVE Cromor.

While I'm trying not to put to much brain bandwidth into speculating how this particular deal is going to pan out, from the vice grip marks on the poached stem, I'm going to have to check if our rude mechanics borked the frame while digging for ''gold".

$115. This model used Columbus Tenax tubing (jury is still out on whether its a rebranded Columbus SL or SP ). Either way the price seems reasonable.
No, The "Jury" came in on this issue of fact a long time ago.

Oggetto: Information Regarding Columbus "Tenax" Tubing Used By Schwinn Bicycle Co., USA, circa 1985-1992

Dear folks at Columbus Tubi,

If possible, I would like to obtain information about Columbus tubing labeled "Tenax", and used by Schwinn Bicycle Company from the mid 1980s through the early 1990s.

While tubing descriptions and specifications are widely available for most Columbus tube sets, information about the Tenax tubing used by Schwinn is mysteriously absent.

Thank you for any information you may be able to provide.

Sincerely yours,

Stan Cooper

Dear Stan,
The Tenax was the tube-set made during the middle '80, those were actually the 3 main tubes, made like the cromor tubes in seamed 25crmo4, and double butted.

Good result in term of stiffness but was not one of the light tubeset line.

Thanks and best regards,
Andrea

So wait, it is Cromor or different but made like Cromor.

I was using deduction based guesses. I am almost retired, so will save tube research for June...

You gave both of us grief about speculating that Tenax was Cromor, claimed it was "public knowledge" that it wasn't, and then cited private correspondence that "The Tenax was the tube-set made during the middle '80, those were actually the 3 main tubes, made like the cromor tubes in seamed 25crmo4, and double butted."

...and yet https://metal-guru.com/pages/columbus-steel states that Croomor is 25CrMo4, seamed and then drawn. So that sounds like it's the same composition and the same manufacturing process.

So what's your argument? That Columbus and Schwinn gave it a different name? That it's only the three main tubes? I'm trying to be open-minded, but I'm not sure you're changing my mind here. Help me understand the point you're trying to make.

Nothing "Private:" all public domain.

Quoted Scooper post from 2014.

Does a BF Thread from 2014 titled "For Those of You Interested - A Definitive Verdict on Columbus Tenax Tubing" constitute "Public Knowledge?"

From that thread:

OP of that thread draws the unwarranted conclusion that Tenax is Cromor. Scooper did not. Scooper knew a thing or two, especially about Schwinn.

If Tenax was Cromor, Columbus would not write Tenax is "like" Cromor.

Tenax is metallurgically the same as Cromor, and seamed like Cromor, and butted like Cromor, but not Cromor.

Nice fillet brazed construction, black anodized Shimano components, what's not to like aside from the terrible photos? Hopefully not stolen, otherwise quite a find.

New Renold Chain

Mislabeled eBay auction for a new Renold Chain (1950s, according to the seller). Might be interesting to a collector or someone restoring a period British bike.

Nice fillet brazed construction, black anodized Shimano components, what's not to like aside from the terrible photos? Hopefully not stolen, otherwise quite a find.
For someone that owns a Taylor, he/she sure doesn't care much about it with these style of pics. And in SB,hmmm... suspect. Just sayin'.

Interesting offer. I get it's rough but I see the Lambert (TA?)cranks and the seat post and a few other trinkets and since it was listed 4 days ago and seller just bumped it perhaps the $100 price might be a suggestion...

https://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/...587883225.html

Viking of England with Lambert parts 24 inch frame - $100 (Cully)

24 inch seat tube center to center
22.5 top tube center to center

Lots of patina
Seat post and stem are not stuck

Lambert cranks, brake, brake levers, stem, fork.

2 bolt style seat post that’s unbranded.

yes, it's a Lambert with Viking transfers - made that way

there are also similar Lamberts fitted with Reg Harris transfers

wonder if it carries a shop transfer; there were two or three authorized agents for these in the Bay Area, one in San Francisco and Stone's in Alameda

BTW Rob -

how is your Oxalis crop this year?

we had a beautiful bumper crop carpeting the grounds at me place in the East Bay and did absolutely no preparation

know you are very conscientious with preparing your beds...

yours is sure to be even finer
