Spotted this oddity at Tigard, OR Goodwill today. Not exactly my cup of tea, but I enjoy seeing any older bike in unusually nice condition.

Trek 970, looks to be in good condition. The water bottle, OTOH .. I used to have one like that and it seemed like the lid never closed right.

https://nashville.craigslist.org/bik...754758823.html

This bike is in great condition. It comes with 2 sets of tires + 2 extra tubes. Last image is what it would look like with the mountain bike tires on it. Asking $170

A Rose By Any Other Name...

Touring Bike 1982 Univega Specialissima - $200 (Fan)

"bicycle type: road
brake type: cantilever
condition: good
electric assist: none
frame size: 53cm
handlebar type: drop
make / manufacturer: Univega
model name / number: Specialissima
suspension: none (rigid)
wheel size: 700C
don't shell out 2k+ for a brand new touring bike; invest in Japanese craftsmanship and quality control! This bike handles beautifully loaded and unloaded, and feels pleasantly springy with 40lbs of gear on the racks. Cyclone is the best friction group I've used short of Superbe Pro, and the its been converted to 700c wheels so there's more room for plush tires and way more wheel and tread options down the road. Double butted main triangle and stays, diamond cut lugs and a beautiful metal-flake azure paintjob. There are light paint chips on most of the tubes and a small dent in top tube next to the largest paint nick. Most components have some surface wear and tear but nothing bad. If you're looking for a do-it-all bike with rack mounts, cantilevers, and a hand-built steel frame, this Univega is your stop.

-53.5cm top tube ctc
-53cm seat tube ctt

- Suntour Cyclone front derailleur, downtube levers and GT rear derailleur
- Gran Compe brake levers w/ new hoods
- Tange headset and BB
- SR apex crankset w/ halfstep triple, 52-48-34t
- Front wheel is a 36s mavic ma40
laced to a 1985 Performance sealed hub, 32c IRD crossfire tire
- 36s rear wheel, hub and rim are without branding, new-ish Shimano 7 speed freewheel, Forte Speedtrac/k Kevlar 35c tire
- Vetta front rack, brandless rear rack and Planet bike rear fender

The brakes I found to work best with 700c's in the frame's old canti post spacing are Dia compe 981's in the back and Shimano Altus' in the front. The bike is currently set up as such, but I also still have the original Dia Compe 960's that I am happy to include if you're looking to return it to 1982 rolling status.

Offers always considered, local pickup In Richmond, VA. Am willing to deliver/ meet half way for the price of gas for my old ass van."

Terrible ad and bad photos, but for $40 CDN you don't see many down tube shifting road bikes in the GTR.......

per ad

Vintage 1983 Fuji Touring Series IV Bicycle - $135 (Boxford)

18 speed. Great bike, but hasn't been ridden in several years since I got a mountain bike. Crankshaft needs grease, but otherwise the bike is in great condition.

Tires: 26 inches
Top Tube (C-C): 22 inches
Seat Tube (C-T): 21 inches

Fuji manufactured this bike for four years between 1983 and 1987. All four model years can be seen at Touring Series IV

This 1984 model is for sale on eBay for $499: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-198...8AAOSw8TBZdRMU

At $135 you can't go wrong!

Starting bid at $350. I don't understand why nobody is bidding here. It has already gone thru a cycle. I wish it were my size.

Reckon most viewers don't recognize the framebuilder. Then they look at the Heinz 57 gruppo, and move on.

The reason it hasn't sold is because it's too small for me. Sigh.

Certainly a household name around here, but ask the man on the street, and he'll think maybe a dead physicist, or photographer, or maybe some dude from an old TV show.

BTW, are new posts acting hinky for anyone else? I'll load a thread, read what appears to be the most recent post, post a reply, and suddenly there are new posts in between. And not just a minute or so in between. It's like sometimes it doesn't display new posts for several (i.e. 30-ish) minutes.

Dude who deals mostly in '80s Treks, Panasonics, etc., sells in Chi/Mad. This one's esp. cool, the dawn of the ATB/MTB era. Dig the bull moose bar and the block-long rear triangle.
