This is really interesting! What about the bottom bracket on the Specialized? It looks like there are tubes going in that direction.

It's amazing the stuff people have on campus. The Colnago is just one of the many big-name Italians here (couple of Pinarellos, De Rosa, Colnago, Guericiotti, etc.) Most are campy-equipped and are destroyed or heavily neglected. The XO-1 was a first but I've seen multiple Raleigh Comps, 531 Treks, and every type of high-end Japanese touring bike there is. And it's not even a big school!

Go back and measure the amount of exposed seatpost on that black bike and look for the Minimum Insertion mark. Attachment 545899 |

Admired this Motobecane briefly after locking up outside of a coffee shop.

Saw this GT Strike while doing some birthday shopping.
Attachment 549336 Here are some from my repping days after I learned to carry a camera with me: Cannondale road bike with suspension fork and quad chainring setup with big big ring. Doubled cage on the rear to handle the chain wrap. Attachment 549337Attachment 549338 Early suspension Cannondale MTB with rack and crate mounted to the swingarm. If you wondered how the front basket would affect that De Rosa's handling in the other thread, imagine what weight on the back would do to this one. Attachment 549339 Random bike crossing the street in the Ocean View area of Norfolk VA. Attachment 549340 |
^ That's pretty random alright. I hope that guy eventually got a longer seatpost. Or a bigger bike ;)
Wish you'd gotten a closeup of the FD on that completely bonkers quad-chainring C-dale. |

Saw a young Black man on this flawless Fisher. Had to ask him about it. It turned out his dad bought it new, it was his prized possession, but the dad died when the current owner was only 12 years old. As a tribute to his dad he keeps it in showroom condition. This was an inspiring encounter.

Nice little Centurion tourer, not too badly worn and missing a couple of parts.

Drove past at 35 MPH, saw the TA crank and had to go back. Not much info on the frame since it was covered with stickers and spray paint, but it has chrome on the fork crown and fork tips, stamped tips and dropouts. Nothing fancy, but the crankset was worth the stop.

Vintage Ross "locked up" in downtown Miami.
At least the front wheel will still be there when the owner gets back... https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4179/3...8a36e19d_z.jpg https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4191/3...a3647369_z.jpg |

Heading down 59/69S outside of Houston today and was passed by a car with this beautiful Miami Vice Ironman on top. I got so excited you'd think I was getting flashed by a stranger. My wife just shook her head and snapped this photo for me. Anyone from BF?

I always shout "Photo op!" at times like this so my wife will be prepared for the soon-to-follow sharp braking/lane change/U-turn or whatever it takes to get the pic. As long as I don't get us killed she seems to be okay with it.

A while back I posted a pic of an art installation in town composed of bikes on a pyramid framework. While at the doc's office yesterday I was reading the local paper and they had this pic.

Spotted at the Co-op, so not really in the wild. None of these is particularly fancy; steel frames and stamped dropouts.
Batavus Tour de l'Europe. I actually had one of these that I bought in Amsterdam in '74 for my first tour. Mine was white and a bit older than this one, having a cottered crank while this one has the tapered spindle that subsequent Maxi crank models used. This one also has pump pegs and has provision for generator wiring. Attachment 566786 Bike boom Bridgestone in a nice yellow finish, with those clunky lugs. Attachment 566787 Bike boom Flandria. A couple of interesting elements here in the cottered crank that looks T/A-ish and those alloy shifters that look like Campy but say "Triplex." Attachment 566788 This fork was in a pile of others but looks like a decent piece. Forged Shimano tips and chrome socks. Paint is stripped but it has what looks like a quality crown with a logo I do not recognize. Short steerer so it won't fit too many things if anyone is interested. Attachment 566789 |

Another one from the co-op, at least a view of part of a bike. This is on a low-end bike boom Browning and this is by far the most interesting part of it, the rear centerpull hanger. I've worked on Brownings and none had a brazed-on piece like this.

Old Peugeot, parked in Monpazier, France. Looked well-maintained:

Apologies for no pictures, but I have someone in my building that commutes on a Strong Frame. (Road bike) Most of you probably don't recognize the name, but it's a local frame builder here in Bozeman and the bike is probably ridiculously expensive.
Strong Frames | Welcome to Strong Frames Inc. Custom Bicycles On the racks around campus I rarely see anything interesting. Italians aren't very prevalent around here. I suppose I see the occasional bianchi, older Le Tour and occasionally a Colnago, but nothing is ever in "good" shape. |

I have a friend that has one of his mountain bikes. Snap some shots of those campus bikes. They would be fun to see. |
Saw this nice Medici on the streets of New Brunswick, NJ, most likely a Rutgers students bike.
