Quick story from my repping days.

One customer was going down her list of stuff she needed and was asking about the kind of felt brake pads these exercisers require, and she phrased the setup line perfectly, "Have you felt brake pads?"

My reply: "Lady, I've been in this business so long I've felt just about every component there is."

Cracked up the mechanic at the stand.

Haha!

Sort of a "Bike Lockup" so to speak. Gate made of old bike frames along Stevens Canyon Rd. south of San Fran:

Whoa! That's a nice ride. A little worried about the locking technique on such a nice frame, though! Maybe it was a safe spot...let's hope so!

Looks to be in pretty good shape other than having a 10 or 20 year old tree growing through the front wheel. I think if about 10 spokes were replaced, the damage will buff out.

styggno1 & verktyg, re pic stolen from net: That's the Bike Tree on Vashon Island, WA:

My Brother in law lived on Vashon in the 60's &70's & it was a local attraction. Back story is, a local family lost their home and possessions in a fire. Bike was among things given to them by neighbors afterwards. New owner/kid never liked the bike's solid tires, outgrew it & left it leaning against a tree in the nearby woods. Don

Or rather hung it up on the tree somehow. Otherwise the bike would still be at ground level.

There's a bike/tree blend near Stephens City, Virginia that I got a pic of many years ago. I'll have to find it. It features a similar juvie machine being absorbed.

Saw this on the way to a buddy's place out in the country. Did not stick around due to No Trespassing signs.

This one was actually seen at an antique shop, not truly in the wild. It's a very basic bike boom tourist-type 10-speed with a National head badge and stickers proclaiming it to be an Ultra Sport. I sort of hoped it was a prehistoric Panasonic since that's the only National brand name I know of, but there's nothing to distinguish the machine otherwise. Interesting but very cheap rear derailleur, Sapporo brand? See photos for the ID: National Sport Wheels Corp. in Passaic NJ. The only reference I found is for a BMX bike by the same maker from 1987. One comment on that forum was that the head badge is "dank." True dat.

1991 Diamondback Master TG at the local Safeway today. Stem and front wheel have been swapped, but the running gear looks like all the original 105 stuff:

I saw this van approaching yesterday but could not get the camera out in time once I recognized the treasure on the back. Saw it again this morning, parked. Think what you will of flatbed cycletrucks, you must admire the owner's determination to bring it along.https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...2e08c11b56.jpg

I believe that picture served as the inspiration for Berekley Breathed's 1994 book Red Ranger Came Calling.

Started a new job this week downtown Chicago. Spotted this both yesterday (in the rain) and today, so shot a couple of pics. Trek 660 (I think? Maybe a 560). I think the owner works where I do... my size (well, a 56 would be better).

Oh, you mean this locking method? --> https://www.sheldonbrown.com/lock-strategy.html

It's actually pretty secure. That is a really nice bike though. 29'er disc wheels with lots of room!

It's actually one of the best ways to lock your bike in such a limited profile. Only major component left unlocked in the front wheel, easily the least expensive to replace.
