This (nice) one was locked here outside in the snow all winter:

Not my photo, but one by somebody on another forum about reading and books. Spotted in front of a book store, this 23" mixte from the '70s is something a lot of us aging folk would like to find.

A run of the mill Raleigh Sports but in excellent condition, well appointed with a beautiful Brooks saddle and cool bags. Clearly loved by an owner who cares about such things. I saw it parked outside of a downtown music venue.

Intriguing Motobecane. I think it’s a Grand Touring. Delightful!

Taking the bull horns concept just a step further. I would not want them riding behind me...

At my college's bike racks, of course, there are some beater bikes. I'm surprised at how many fine bikes I see. But it's in a wealthy neighborhood that probably has low crime, and it's around the corner from the Russian embassy, so there are a lot of NYC police officers. I usually lock in a little park the college owns that has a locked gate that you need ID to open, so why not. I spied this bike there. It's both handsome and practical.

I showed up for the Mill Valley (CA) "History Ride" on my one-owner 1983 Ritchey Annapurna (not shown). A couple of other riders brought their own cool gear.

Here are a couple of interesting bikes I spotted parked near my college in Manhattan. It seems to be a good neighborhood for locking up a special bike.

I struck up a conversation with an elderly gentleman named Claude at the Country Roads Metric Saturday in tiny Scotland Neck NC. He was parked beside me and I noticed his silver Windsor Professional and the first thing he told me about it was it has over a quarter of a million miles on it since he bought it new in 1975. It certainly looks to have been ridden a lot. He went on to tell me most of the Campy components that came with it new (and were dated 1974) have been replaced because of wear. After the ride in the dining area he said I could make some photos of him and the bike for this thread.
https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...93894b2fa3.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...a8b871d782.jpg He was riding with another man of about the same age and the two were old friends and both live out of NC, but get together for this ride since it's between their two locations of Greenville SC and Norfolk VA areas. Claude's friend looks like Albert Einstein but with even wilder hair. He was riding a vintage Mercier with fenders, but it was already put up on his car rack when I talked to them. So cool these elder cyclists are still at it and on the bikes of their youth. |
A photo I saved/downloaded from a Sunday Parkway event in Portland back from 2009 or 2010.
I was so intrigued by it after seeing in person I made my own version of it. Eventually Someone else was intrigued by it, they stole it. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...9af9f5a3b9.jpg |

If I had a marker I might be tempted to cross out 1988 and write 1991.
