Not to throw sand in your soup but keep an eye on the bonded joints. I've looked at three of them in the last five years and each of them had a separating joint. Just a cautionary heads-up.

Bikes: I used to have many. And I Will again.
The Techniums came with a no fault lifetime warranty. Hmm, I wonder how one can get Raleigh to honor it.

Ah good eye! I didn't even catch that faded sticker in the OP's photos. How interesting! They downgraded the tubes.

That is for a cable guide if the bike has stem mounted shifters. Check out the pic on my bike that I posted.

A guy I work with has a 1991 Technium Pro that he's handed over to me to help build for him. We're just lacking wheels, cranks, saddle, seatpost and brakes. It should look close to this when finished.

It doesn't cover the decals on mine. It is just a small plastic bracket underneath the downtube to hold the cables from the stem shifters. I agree they wouldn't place downtube shifters over decals, but my bike was set up for stem shifters, no downtube shifter bosses. Do you have shifter bosses, or are they clamp on?

The hole I mentioned is on the bottom side of the tube and is threaded but obviously not used for a very long time due to crusty looking threads. I makes much more sense that it was for a flickstand than for shifters.

Alot of then had stem shifters and the boss is for the cable stop. I took it off mine when I was converting it.

I agree with it being a cable stop for stem shifters. The 440 used stem shifters. The 460 and 480 had down tube shifters attached via brazed-on bosses. The OP's shifters appear to be clamp attachment, indicating conversion from stem shifters.

I found one like this at a garage sale 3 yrs ago for $15.00 and it fit's my wife perfect. It was ready to ride and never had a bit of problem with it. That's the bike that got me interested in the CV bikes. So I stick to garage sales I think a bike flipper would put another zoro on that price.

Bikes: Upright and Recumbent....too many to list, mostly Vintage.
The threaded boss could also be for an air bottle basement, which is meant to hold CO2 cartridges for fast tire refills. Miyata put that on a few of their bikes in the late 80's. Its a single threaded boss, looks exactly like a water bottle boss except there's only one.

Its a silly little thing that goes on the downtube and has a little metal cage that you "flick" forward when you park your bike. The cage keeps the front wheel from turning side to side.

I think for now I'll just put a greased screw in it to keep the crud from the front wheel out.
Well I just got this baby fit to ride!!!
Took it for a short spin and am VERY impressed with the ride. Similar to my old Super Course in some ways but there is something different about the overall feel and it is obviously lighter. It will take a real ride for me to nail it down.
Enough chit chat. Time for some pics.....

One more pic...
Just planning to re-spoke the wheels with stainless spokes when they arrive on the little brown goodie wagon and I'll call this my new fair weather commute machine!

Looks great. Nice work.
with those aluminum tubes I'd bet its quite a bit stiffer, lighter and quicker than a Super Course.
