Need help ID'ing this frame. . .

Hi There,

I've been content calling this my "mystery frame" bike for the past few years since acquiring it off SF CL, but my curiousity is still there--especially now since I'm thinking of stripping the frame of its SunTour Superb Pro parts and putting them on another frame. I was told by the previous owner that--after he did some research--he was informed that this was a Sekai 5000. Frankly, I doubt that, based on my own research.

Still, it is a nice frame, and rides well. Obviously, this has been repainted (one of my favorite colors, BTW), is chrome underneath, has SunTour dropouts. . . Probably all parts have been added--I have to credit myself with some of this. . . Any opinions on what this is? Thanks!

Well it's Japanese and from 1983. The serial number format matches those found on Raleigh and Centurion models at this time but it doesn't appear to be either. Sekai did use the same company, as did Niko, Bikecology's house brand.

Edit: Forgot to mention Shogun as another possibility.

Bikes: Colnago C50

Nice looking whatever it is. The craftsmanship of Japanese frames is definitely underrated.

It sure does look nice, but I can't do any better than T-Mar (who could?). If you want to sell it, I know somebody in SF looking for something like this, but he needs a 61-62cm frame, is this one that big?

Thanks T-Mar, Love2Pedal (great jerseys, BTW!), Unworthy1. . .

The frame is 61cm ctt. If I were to sell it, it would probably just be the frame. Like I said, I'm thinking of stripping the frame of all the SunTour Superbe Pro parts and transferring them over to another frame (an Eisentraut).

Looks an awful lot like a Sekai 5000 to me, probably with a repaint, as they were only available in black and silver-blue, IIRC, but were all chrome underneath.

Bobbycorno:
Well, the images I find on google images, for example:
https://www.google.com/images?rlz=1T4...w=1259&bih=560
show a different seat cluster design and lugs, not to mention fork crown. Of course my bike is an '83, the ones I see on google are circa 1977. . . Maybe the design changed?

While I can't state that I've seen a 5000 with those changes, I've definitely seen them on later versions of the 4000.
