where are your bikes from?
The "I scored an eddy merckx" thread prompted me to wonder about the origins of my bikes -
My '89 waterford paramount was sourced and built up to be raced by the original owner, who later sold it to me ( he has ~40 some race bikes)
My '80 Mclean was custom built, then sold to me by the original owner.
My '85 merckx was resold to me by a secondary owner, as far as I know.
'76 fuji track, sold to me by the original owner, an american in japan at the time he bought it.
'81 bianchi pista, I have no idea, seller just sold it to me.
'78 raleigh track, seller bought it from a shop? I think? It's seen little use.
'78 Raleigh Professional, bought it as a "divorce" bike, the woman (seller) said her husband had bought it new for her, long ago. She also told me other stuff about him and their divorce, more than I wanted to know!

some of mine are from Italy, one is from Italy by way of the netherlands. unfortunatly alot are from Japan, Tiawan and other oriental locations.
the one with a good story about procurment would be the RIGI. I read an article in a cycling mag about a guy who had like 30 of them. a coworker said he had one he didn't want. his price was a Trubo saddle. I got the frame only found a nice tange fork and asked the owner for shop owner for. most of the rest was scrounged parts. yes even the C-Record rd was from the used takeoff box. the Deltas are another story but rest assured I was very shrewd and did not pay a dime for them either *blushing*

haha sometimes when you start something you gotta finish it the same way!
Whenever I bike commute, I make it a point to not use the car after I get home, any further errands get done w/ the bike or don't get done at all that day.

norco (not that it hardly counts being a bike on the trainer this winter), probably japan!
with my current bikes and a small handful of treks I had a lot of my bikes have been american, hmm!

Bikes: Was Fuji and got my grails (Pro, Pro SR, Design Series, & Ti). Now I hunt 50's/60's road bikes.
My keepers are all from Japan.
84 Pro Super Record - 4th (Long story short, I once thought I was 5th, but I believe a similar bike was destroyed by the first owner of this one.)
88 Design Series - 4th owner (Funny story: A previous owner wanted it built into a beach cruiser.

75 Pro - 3rd, I think. (2nd owner never even got it home before selling it to my fiance via a BF member. I suppose that if you count her as an owner, I would be 4th.)
73 Special Road Racer - at least the second owner.

Well if we're talking procurement:
My Cervelo (I know, not C&V but whatever) I got from a guy on my local CL. I ditched work at 10 AM to go snag it and essentially raced a local bike flipper to it. I got to the seller's place and it turned out to be a wicked awesome mansion type place and the seller had a tattoo over every inch of his body. He said he didn't ride the bike and wanted someone to use it for what it was built for. I made out like a bandit and drove home with a stupid grin on my face. That stupid grin is still here, I just detailed and tuned the bike this evening.
The local flipper beat me to an all-original Super Leggera earlier that week for $500. My deal smoked his, and I think he kinda hates me for it!
My Bianchi is less thrilling, BG ID'd the bike for me and I went up North of Boston to grab it. It came with no rear wheel and a front tubi with no tire. Flipped the wheel (which I regret) and got a set of wheels from an ex-racer that I work with for way cheap. The rest, as they say, is history. I'm getting a celeste colored, Bianchi branded Turbo tomorrow.

All of the C&V bikes I've come across since getting back into riding, have come from Garage sales, or CL, with a couple of exceptions. I acquired a PH10LE, my PH501, and a couple others from the dump.

The first part of recovery is admitting there is a problem.

I can't say no to a pretty face.
...and for gosh sakes, I almost added a a beautiful Masi Gran Criterium a few weeks ago.
That one might haunt me.
I am going on a severe bike diet though in January.
Finally going to cough up for a red star, so watch this space.
The magic number to sell will be about six to keep me sleeping indoors.

Raleigh Sports - My dad snagged this from the town transfer station.
Raleigh Super Course - My first complete build, purchased as a frameset and pieced together with stock parts.
Eddy Merckx Titanium AX - Vague, pictureless ad on craigslist. Bought from original owner.
Steve Potts Titanium Road - Custom build for a close friend who never rode (mtn bike guy) it so he gave it to me. However, now that I got the Merckx and said friend is moving back to the east coast I think I'm going to give it back. That's going to be hard to do, it's a brilliant bike.
Raleigh Team Cross - Original owner raced on it for Harris Cyclery then gave it to his roommate who then sold it to me on craigslist.
Nashbar Cyclocross X - Bought frame this fall and have built it up to be a rugged commuter/cyclocross/off road bike with new parts. (First time doing that)

Funny, this thread got me thinking about my Raleigh Team Cross so I did some searching and found an old picture, circa 2006 from a blog that I'm pretty sure has my bike in it. I'm sure there were a few of them so might not be the exact one, but it very well could be.
