all my sunglasses come either found lying in parking lots or off the 5$ rack (i'm a big spender) at the Drug Store.
I'm uniquely blessed in that I look damn good in sunglasses. And also I am a very modest person, that is my other blessing in life.

Exactly. I had a set with white frames.
They made it 10 degrees cooler on a run, great protection on a ride, until they fogged.
The brow band kept sweat pretty much out.
They got stolen at a 10k, then I found a lady wearing them at the next 10k.
She admitted she found them and gave them right back.
I've been looking for another pair for a while. Closest I can find are M-Frames.
My wife wouldn't let me wear them to drive or do anything else in public.
Right now, I generally wear modern, but I make do a lot with a pair of John Lennons.

...until you did anything at all that would compress the band, at which point all of the stored sweat would pour down the inside of the lenses, leaving a salty residue that was impossible to remove without using water and a clean cloth (trying to use a jersey would just make it worse).
Still, they were the epitome of mid 80's cycling eyewear. These are best worn with a Giro "neckripper" helmet - the one with they lycra cover.

I have however found that a good dollop of spit can really do the trick to clean sweat off lenses....amylase is some powerful stuff.

I'm pretty darn light sensitive, so I almost always ride with sunglasses. However, I seem to have the problem that the more expensive they are, the more likely I am to lose them. I usually end up buying something in the $25-$35 range on sale at Nashbar when I'm ordering something else. Here I am in something I've since lost:

You're not the only one, I assure you. But I think the statistical correlation is somewhat more complicated than you suggest. More expensive glasses often come with removable lenses, which seem to further increase the likelihood of losing the rest of the glasses or, occasionally, the case with all the other colored lenses. The ones with removable lenses are also surprisingly fragile... ask me how I know this!

I have aviator style prescription glasses for driving and riding.
My shades are definitely more C&V looking than my helmet.

Those of us who wear prescription glasses don't have so many options. I just make do with Transitions lenses (darken in sunlight), though I do have an old pair of Bolle sunglasses that have prescription inserts; I may try them some time.

Yes, we do. I've been getting my cheap sunglasses (hey - that should be a song title!) from zennioptical.com. Inexpensive prescription glasses and sunglasses - some as low as $9.99 a pair for frames with single vision lenses. They are not name-brand frames....more likely cheap Chinese knockoffs. But I go through expensive glasses just as fast as the cheap ones, so it's all good as far as I'm concerned.

I believe I was the first person to import cycling specific sunglasses to North America in 1980. The ones I brought in were designed and marketed by the former pro Bernard Croyet. As best as I know there were no cycling specific sunglasses in the 70's.

I have worn a pair of Serengeti sunglasses since 1999, not really C&V and not great in real bright situations but they are perfect for hazy, days. I have been a Varnet and B&L fan since the 80s. Glass lenses hold up far better for me than plastic.
I used to sport a pair just like these:

I've been lusting after a pair of these coolrays, but I just can't justify blowing my allocated funds @ the moment.

A pair of these would be nice for the laboratory, though. AhhhahahaaHAA!

I only buy sunglasses that fit over my prescription glasses, that way I don't need to buy two expensive pairs and if I lose the sunglasses I just get another inexpensive pair.
