This is the ticket. Although hybrid/comfort could be subbed for the MTB. If you really have a bike wrenching Jones try the bike shop job as some have suggested.

We had 3 cats but had to put down the wife's long time companion around Christmas. Then about a month ago we found out that my cat has a tumor that they could not totally remove. This cat is in a hospice state bidding his time but feeling no pain. I found him 9 years ago behind a dumpster abandoned about 2 weeks after he was born. I had to bottle feed him for a few weeks just like a baby. So it will be tough when he goes!

Back to the bikes. I have the wrencher's dream setup. I live in a 2200 square house but have my own business. So I also have a 4250 office/shop/warehouse. Luckily, (for my family anyway) I don't have the personality to be a flipper/buyer/seller/ or collector of any type of item. So bikewise if I am not going to ride it regularly I don't need it. The main reason I got into C & V is because biking is a lot easier on the joints than basketball. Instead of getting a new road bike I opted for C & V bikes so I could put the needle to the people I ride with. I'm still faster on the old bikes than they are on their new ones! If I had bought a new bike then I might of had to find some new riding partners!

By the way, I trap/neuter/spay/release feral cats in the area so I guess you could call me one of those "cat people."

Seriously... I'm allergic to cats, I'm not allergic to bikes.

Cats ruin carpets and furniture, bikes only ruin my pants.

My dogs ignore my bikes. Would they ignore a cat? I don't even want to think about that.

Bikes don't need litter boxes. End of story.

bikes don't claw the furniture. except this once when I dropped my bike against the piano, that hurt. Now I have to learn basic furniture restoration as well, damn!

If I was working in the confines that the OP and some others have described, the first thing I would invest in is some of the interlocking rubber floor mats like you put in a garage or kid's play room. You can get enough to cover a 6' x 6' space for around $20.

When I met The Girl she said thats some woman would find a man with a collection of bikes like this to be very attractive.

She is subtle that way.

I try and keep my own little stash down to 11 and the ladies here have 5 more, my housemate has 1, there are some new arrivals, and I currently have more than 11.

Yeah, on the carpet is a horrible place to work on bikes. Nothing hurts worse than a cut piece of brake line stabbing into your foot at 2:00 am when you get up to use the bathroom.

For me the storage issue is that it impacts my shop space... am looking for a new location as an alignment table, frame jig, and frame building supplies will need more room.

Get two tandems, work around and trip over them for as long as you can stand it, then get rid of them. Your place will seem huge after they're gone.

Yeah, luckily I haven't got carpet- but I've scratched these hardwoods pretty bad! My apartment is probably 300 square feet, so it's tough to avoid.

These are all marvelous suggestions. I think I might try the "bikes don't use a litterbox" argument- paired with my feminine wiles, I might be able to finagle a second bike into the space.

to be perfectly honest I've never tried to convince anyone of anything related to my bike collection. Ya don't like it? too bad, thats me. Same with the cats.

actually I've found it harder to convince people that riding l'Eroica would be fun.
