Now THAT is a vintage ride!

Nothing like those big wheels turning.....imagine what it must have been like in East Anglia when groups and divisions of 17s and 24s were forming up.
One sour note....My Geo blew up in Dennis. Renting a car tomorrow and hoping it can be fixed by Thursday when I bring it back.
We missed out on both the beer and puking . Gotta do it again right!

Oh man,

sorry to hear about your car Top506. Bummer.
As for the WWII aircraft, I'm a devotee. So I was mortified to see one go down this weekend. Not to mention the loss of life of course. Too sad. The P-51 is to my mind one of the two most beautiful aircraft ever built.

Nope. Happened this morning on my way back to Maine. Stopped to get a quart of oil because I could hear the valve train chattering and it died in the parking lot.

Jury is still out, but the smart money would bet on the timing belt. Pretty easy fix, right at the front of the engine, not too much to take off to get at it.

Sorry to hear that Top, good thing it's not a VW/timing belt, you could kiss it good bye! Good luck with that ...

I swung by the airport this a.m on the way to work to check out the planes. These shots are lousy, there's now a 8 foot fence surrounding the ramp area. It used to be chest high, I suspect it was replaced with the high stuff just a month or so ago due to increased security surrounding the 9/11 anniversary.

The B-24

The B-17:

Unfortunately the P-51 was tucked away in a hanger across the field so I couldn't get any photos of that. Beverly Airport has some interesting history, a Naval Squadron was based there during WWII. They have some static displays but not from that period.

A Huey:

A Polish MIG:

and something that used to give me nightmares when I was a kid, a Nike missile .... Beverly Airport was one of the many Nike sites that surrounded Boston back in the Cold War. I couldn't get any closer to take this photo, there's some serious looking gates, fences and warning signs. The site isn't active anymore but there's still something going on to deserve all the security.

I saw the cop pointing the radar gun on route 6 Saturday. Seems we were in good company at the cape.

Good thing he wasn't using it on the bike trail!

I was riding by Pease today when I noticed a Dreamlifter taxying on the tarmac. I didn't know whether it was staying or going, so I didn't hang out at the fence, but it took off a few minutes later.

I went online and found a website devoted to tracking these things, and at least one of them regularly stops off at Pease.

Guess I have a new hobby
