New best friends. Our neighbor's daughter (in the purple shirt) has become one of my kids' newest best friends on the block.

http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6156/...bc400b8f_z.jpg Reflections by (cobrabyte), on Flickr I passed by this beautiful example of a Swiss Military Bike at the coffee shop this morning. I used to own one of these. I chatted up the owner and it was a "barn find" that sat untouched for 35 years. http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6055/...b757a383_z.jpg Swiss Military Bicycle by (cobrabyte), on Flickr |
Anton, what lovely little girls!
cobrabyte, that reminds me that one of these days, I want to do a photo journal of the bikes parked on NYC streets. The volume and variety are astonishing. |

I baked this last week for Rosh Hashanah (Jewish New Year). I've made many challahs before but this is my first round one. I got the braiding procedure from youtube.

That's great Tom. that's exactly the type of material i had in mind when i created this thread (yes, i'm reminding you again, i'm quite proud of this one).
I wish I had more to contribute lately but I just havent been too inspired to pull out my camera. Too much on my mind I guess. |

Bertin with produce. This farm stand is a few hundred yards off of the American River Bike Trail. Organic, nonprofit, education based...good coffee, pastries, and the last of the heirloom tomatoes (safely in the panniers of course). Nice morning indeed.

Finally got to put together the Cinelli 1A stem Otis milled for me ages ago after getting a donor stem for the hardware. I swapped out the Alpina's 1R for this beauty and just got it all put together this morning:

Beautiful day today, visiting my old stomping grounds in Orange County, CA.
Went to Crystal Cove State Park for a mountain bike ride, had super good Mexican food at La Sirena in Laguna Beach and then went to chase down an Eisentraut that came up on CL. Got all three bikes inside the Prius! As you can see this one will be a project.....http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=222039http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=222040http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=222041http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=222042http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=222043http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=222044http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=222045http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=222046http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=222047 |
I spent the last 3 days cleaning and reorganizing my shop and finally after 4 1/2 years I got my big air compressor back on line and working great, next is my sand/Glass Bead blasting cabinet I bought last year.

That's great Glenn! I finally got my mig welder back after lending it to someone for the two last years. I really don't have anything to weld at the moment though.

I gotta say; Sacramento holds some of the fondest memories for me on the road. I just love the bike trails along the river. My intro. to yoga was there as well. Good Times |
Busy weekend: 24 hrs of Moab mountain bike endurance race, with thousands of riders showing up. Our team of 5 kept a guy constantly on the 14 mile trail throughout a blustery afternoon followed by a frosty moonlit night and finishing with a crisp cool morning.
It was a great event, professionally run by GrannyGear and attracting all kinds of folks from a one legged middle age guy to single speed power houses doing it solo: 24hrs - one gear!! http://i739.photobucket.com/albums/x...lajsen/241.jpg Here's one of the hectic change-overs scanning the chip and handing over the baton. http://i739.photobucket.com/albums/x...lajsen/249.jpg Bjorn taking off on lap 4.. http://i739.photobucket.com/albums/x...ajsen/2410.jpg ..and returning an hour and a half later. http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...16352426_n.jpg The ever cautious moms, who unfortunately were present at our basecamp, didn't want the kids out there at night so to keep us on the loop I did three back to back laps from midnight to five am. Kinda fun, actually. Modern bicycle lamps are pretty amazing. |
Some cell phone photos of the bike-related adventures this weekend.
On Saturday my girlfriend and I had a leisure ride down to the lakepark, where Octoberfest was if full-swing. We took two of my bikes, I rode my '76 Moto Grand Jubile and my girlfriend took the '91/'92 Bridgestone MB-1 Grocery/Beater. On the way, we stopped for lunch at America's Tacos, a great traditional street-taco style eatery - https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-n...1008162631.jpg We spent the afternoon in basking in the sun, and stopped for coffee on our way back to my house - https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-3...1008181058.jpg Fast forward to yesterday, at around 9 o'clock at night, when I jumped on the Bridgestone Grocery bike for a quick trip to the supermarket. I heard a terrible **POP!** and turned around to see this - https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-T...1009224353.jpg https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-d...1009224403.jpg That's the ultimate chain wear indicator: having it break mid-pedal stroke. I knew I needed to replace the chain, but was riding it until it gave out. Unfortunately, when it went out I didn't have a chain tool handy. Luckily I was only about 1/4 mile from home, I just lowered the seat and pushed the bike with my feet, like a scooter. Avoidable, embarrassing, and humorous, but it could have been a lot worse. Going to the shop today to pick up a new chain. |
Did 22 miles w/ the kids today. I think I might need to qualify for a commercial drivers license to operate this.....

Awesome! I think the most we've done is about 12 miles, with several stops along the way:

We used to ride them off the dock at the lake. Good times. |
