is there any thing shoe product from wallmart or a shoe store,leather product that can be used on my ADGA 24A chatillonnaise. its honey kind of. nos. in place of the brooks stuff. i am not buying the brooks stuff.

I've used leather balm, and it's ok... But good leather products are all expensive. Might as well buy the brooks stuff rather than risk an unknown.

Expensive saddle deserves the good stuff - But I have used Colgate Shaving cream on some leather saddles...

Olive oil.....

Baseball glove oil. You can get it at any sporting goods store in the us.

I bought the Proofide too for my B-17. The saddle is a quarter of the price of the bike, got to do everything to keep it in good condition. If you ruin the saddle you will kick yourself. Buying a Brooks saddle you knew it wasn't cheap, so don't be cheap taking care of it. Oh they also have Proofide for sale on Amazon for a cheaper price than retail. Well, if it helps you Proofide is made of Tallow, Cod Oil, Vegetable Oil, Paraffin Wax, Beeswax, and Citronella Oil. Maybe if you mix a couple of those ingredients you can do almost the same job. Good luck.

Go to a music store and buy cork grease for woodwinds. Seriously. It's very similar to old proofhide (has tallow in it?) but some brands are scented. Use it sparingly even though it's dirt cheap. A little goes a long way. I've used it on a number of my Brooks the past year with no ill effects.

Of course I'm biased and play alto sax.

I like Sno-Seal, it's made from bees wax. REI has it for about $7. You want to avoid oil or petroleum based products. Repeated use of anything that softens leather will cause the saddle to sag.
