Bikes: Many

A C&V convenience item

A couple of months ago there was a discussion on one of the threads regarding fixing a fork to a frame for display or storage.

I ended up going to work, making a drawing and sending it off to a local machine shop with a 10' piece of Delrin (yes, the stuff Simplex criteriums were made of) and pretty much forgot about it.

I remembered today when they arrived

Both the pieces are the same, shaped like a basic headset (I think I copied a DA). One of the pieces has an o-ring installed that binds on the headset threads (yes even Wentworth) and keeps the assembly together.

I have extras if anyone wants some.

Excellent design and great choice of materials. We use Delrin a lot for protective bushings and surface pads when we make special tools and such for construction work. I love Simple Elegance in engineering. Get the job dome with the least amount of fluff.

Very cool idea Frank. The chuckle will come in a few years when someone tells the story of buying a vintage frame set on eBay with a rare delrin headset. FWIW some ebay flippers and LBS might be interested in buying those by the box!

I made the fit a bit loose so there would be no confusion!

You mean with enough space for the nylon bearings?

Well, there was the old "Nylfor" nylon headset back in the day. And come to think of it, the Stronglight B-10 as well, although that had steel races.

We did something like that for a bike we made for Rory O'Reilly for a kilo record attempt in '87 or so. We used Turcite. I think the head set weighed 35 grams or something silly like that.

Not sure if this is the bike, but I found this with google.

Bikes: blue ones.

That bike is Amazing. Yeti colours look weird on a track bike, but in a good way any more cool technical details you can share with us Frank?

Bikes: '77 Centurion "Pro Tour"; '67 Carlton "The Flyer"; 1984 Ross MTB (stored at parents' house)

It's funny that you built that with the intention of the guy riding it only turning a few times, and now there's a kid probably riding it around a college campus like that...

I remember he brought a couple of his race bikes in for us to look at. He had one or two that had holes drilled in the seat mast and/or other unusual features. The thing I remember most about working with Rory was Rory. He was the first pro track racer I had met and he was a really muscular dude with no fat at all. He is a really nice guy also.

I didn't know much about bikes for pavement so I wasn't able to absorb much.

I think many race bikes end their lives hauling pizza!
