Early 80s Cinelli SC ?

Have you seen this kind of Cinelli sc?
From the serial number, looks like it's from 1982. I thought the flying C decal started later?
It has "aero" shifter boss and Campagnolo SR components.

Definitely an '82 SC. Never seen one with the aero shifters though, very cool!

I think maybe the fork crown engraving and plastic buttons at the seat binder bolt started around '83. Mine is an 84 'and has both. I know there are very late 70s ones with the old graphics, don't know when the change to the flying C was made.

According to confente's Cinelli Timeline, the new flying C logo was designed in 1979, and new bike decals were introduced in 1980. The timeline also confirms the 1982 year per the serial number. I notice the Laser model was introduced in 1981/82. I wonder if they borrowed an extra aero shift lever boss for your frame. This, of course, is pure speculation.

Is that supposed to be a Cinelli "C" on the drillium shift levers? Got any more photos, esp. a full drive-side photo?

Nice bike!

Yes, but that '82 still carries features of the original SCs: holes in longer lugs and seat lug slot. BB shell obviously modern. By my '84 the frame was less like the original and more "modernized".

If it's an '82 build, I think it's something special with the special features of the aero boss for the levers (and the levers themselves), the three holed lugs, the special fast back seat cluster and over the top cable routing on the bottom bracket.. I also love the colour too. It really looks like an earlier version of the Cinelli Supercorsa.

In my mind, it is quite special and very desirable. Thanks for showing me something I have never seen before.

No, this is not my bike. It belongs to an older gentlemen who is selling most of his collection. I have not seen anything like that either, the asking price is 2,400 and I'm not knowledgeable to make that kind of commitment.

Drive side, solid titanium BB axle, derailleur with Ti parts.

Does it have a 26.2, or 27.2 seat post?

It's not a bargain, but that price is probably pretty close to market. Cinelli SCs don't come cheap and they don't come often. I'd probably offer $1800 and stay firm at $2,000.

It's got the nice lugs, 26.2 post, and those cool shifters. It's a good deal.

I think it is a strange duck, for sure. It's worth is anything. What I mean is that is so different that there will be nothing to compare it to.

So like everything else, it's worth what someone will pay for it.

I think I feel I fall on the side of this. But how good of deal, is up to the buyer.

I'm not to sure you will see many bikes like this come up for sale. So if you like it, and it fits, it's a great deal.

Sounds right to me...it's hard with the really high end and/or weird stuff because we don't see it sell many times. I'd value it, personally, and estimate it as being in between a 70's Cinelli and an early 80s Cinelli, which is how I came to $2,000 as an off eBay sale. As a wild guess, it would sell for somewhere between $2,200 and $2,600 on the bay, and then he deducts fees and has the hassle of eBay and shipping.

I think that you're dead on. It's a good deal (but not great);t he's definitely not giving it away. A really nice example only fetched $1800 recently, but another odd duck fetched $4750. I wouldn't guess on this one without seeing more photos, but I think that you're correct in guessing that the most LIKELY range is $2000-2500, with a possibility of a good bit higher. So, $2400 is certainly a legitimate asking price. But, it could still take a little while to find the right buyer.....

There are relative bargains to be had in SC's, but not many. Pretty steady market.
The only reasonable way to get one is to buy the frame and build it, that I've seen.

Based on what I've seen, the asking price is fair. As with many asking prices, negotiations are anticipated.
