A package arrived from Pinch1967, containing a lovely Shimano 600 crankset 52-39, 170mm, a 60mm SR stem, and a pair of stem shims. I'd post the pic I just took, but am unable to put my hands on the proper cable.

Finally got the right English cranks for my "English club racer" project. Still wet from first cleaning:
There is a bit of surface rust to take care of, but they are just what I was looking for. Now to find the right chainring
(I have rings that fit, just not the right tooth count for this project). Oh well, if it was easy it wouldn't be interesting

^Very nice! Did you get it from Saratogo Frameworks and/or did they do any work on the frame? BS: Made by Serotta himself I take it? 77th frame in 1985?

Robbie, the A23's seem to be notoriously difficult to mount certain tire sets on. Hell to put on Vittoria Rando 32's. Worse with Vittoria open Corsa sc's-literally blew out several tubes post mount while on the stand. Really wanted to mount those SC's so went to the plugs. Less mass in the rim means more clearance to mount the tight tires. End result was that both SC's went on much easier (as in, I could see myself changing one on the trail) and neither tube has blown in almost a week on the rack.

They were delivered yesterday. NOS MKS Graphite 2000 mountain bike pedals which are OEM on my 1986 Fuji Sundance. I kept staring at them for about 6 weeks on ebay, got some cash for my birthday and bought them. The ones on the bike were still in decent condition, but I just kept looking.....

I don't know. I'm absolutely not an authority on Serotta serial numbers. That said, my comment/query was based on this Paceline serial thread which suggests that BS denotes Ben Serotta as the builder and goes on to add: "Mid to late 1980s bikes used all numbers, with production year the first digit in the code." Since the SN on your frame does not match the modern serial sequence with frame numbers, I figured the 5 represents 1985, and 77 represents the frame number that calendar year. But I could certainly be mistaken.

You could always paint the background on the rear derailleur outer plate red, then keep the condoms. :-)

Actually, those "Campy condoms" now sell for good money these days, so be careful deciding on what you do with them....like don't just toss them out...

thanks. They are very nice, in fact. They really have "that Campy sheen". It's a shame the derailer tech was rubbish, or at least bad compared to Suntour and Shimano, and that Campagnolo MTB stuff is so rare because of that. These levers look miles and miles better than anything I have for my shimano equiped off road bikes. Fortunately these levers will go on a single speed build, so no problems with bad shifts. Now I just need the perfect frame to hang my little collection of Campagnolo MTB parts on...

I have lots of wheels and bottom brackets to recondition, so it is cheaper to buy consumables in bulk or get better quality for less money. Grade 25, 3,023 1/4 balls for $60.00, about the same cost of 5 Grade 25 Bottles of 150 count, at $12.05 per bottle.
