$300. Original paint... it's pretty sweet, all things considered.

"Wald" "or Wold" ramshorn handlebars in 2nd hand store in Sparta, WI for $3. Wish I could find another one.

DiegoFrogs 08-17-05 10:07 AM

Wald is still around, producing stuff. A lot of handlebars, baskets and 1 piece bottom brackets are made by wald. you might be able to find another one, but probably not at the same price...

Your bike looks my size... LUCKY! Love that metallic yellow; got a '80 Pog that same color. BTW- your 'Nag needs a Concor Superleggera saddle.

My latest "catch" from a local swap meet. Not all that vintage or classic; it's an '89 Univega Alpina Sport - $30 in decent rideable shape, no dents and quite straight. Don't ask me why, but I've been looking for old MTBs lately too... I used to just pass 'em by.

Very nice. Very clean. My wife gets mad when I put a bike in the living room.

Dunno why, but I've been scanning the old mountain bikes lately as well. I have a short list: Ritchey, Fischer, Ibis, Moots. Seems like people are more apt to know these are worth collecting than they are about old road bikes...

Some people do, and some don't... A friend of ours has a fillet-brazed Ritchey from the early '80s, and had no idea it was a collectible bike. She knew it cost a few $$ when new though (it was bought new by her ex).

Well, got a couple of Raleighs for free today. One is a woman's Raleigh "Record" don't really know the year but still looking for a serial number. Bike has some rust and some paint is chipped, but I think after some work, elbow grease, some new tires, and other repairs, I'll probably sell it for cheap to some of the San Jose State girls. It's got a cool Brooks saddle, old steel rims, Huret f/r derailluers, weinmann brakes. The other Raleigh is an old "Grand Prix" serial number unknown with the mostly the same features, only with Carlton Brake hood levers and black bar tape. Has an old Brooks Saddle too so I think these will be my projects. Maybe someone will want them. What the heck, they were free. Here's the pics from the Grand Prix. This one too is rusty but I think I can get it to look half-way decent.

mhendricks i sent you a pm

I posted pics of the Grand Prix if you wanted to see it.

Quite a catch for my friend today. A free (from his bro-in-law) Centurion Comp TA (?) 12 speed. Very, very light, generic steel, 700c, Full Shimano 600 (gorgeous), and all it needed was $45 in parts (chain, RD cable, rear tire, tubes) and 3 or 4 hours of my labor. For my good deed, I was rewarded with the original MKS leather straps, beat up, but nice. I gave him my nylons simply because they were easier to get into. The bike rides like a dream.

el twe 08-20-05 09:27 PM

So, the Comp TA eventually became the Dave Scott Ironman. Interesting...

I'm with you - nylons are MUCH easier to get into than pantyhose..... ;)

...and Bossman still hasn't mastered walking in heels, either.

Here's my latest catch, courtesy of raverson cleaning out his garage; a 1970 Schwinn Suburban -- the first year Schwinn made the Suburban and the only year it came in black. It's a hoot to ride -- I had a Suburban when I was a sophomore in high school (a year newer than this one). She's a plumper though; about 42 pounds of road-hugging weight.

Oh...a real beauty, ms.

mswantak 08-21-05 04:25 AM

a couple days before raverson brought it over, I mentioned it to a woman who had another of my bikes bought out from under her. She was immediately interested and I told her she could have it for $120 after I cleaned it up -- and at that time I'd only seen a grainy picture of it. I'm thinking I screwed myself...

D'oh! At least you guys (and gals) get deals. All I can find here is rusting hulks of bikes that were never worth anything in the first place. Anyone want a rusty Malvern Star?

lotek 08-21-05 07:39 AM

expat.
malvern 2 3 or 5 star? how bad?

Gorgeous bike! I love the little saddle bag attached to the Brooks... I'd plotz if I found one of those laying around somewhere. :)

I wouldn't know. I just see them rusting kerbside when they do the frequent rubbish collections. There's probably a few Kents and Murrays keeping them company too.

frameteam2003 08-22-05 11:05 AM

Catch of a life time! just got a 1955 Fothergill(english) with a second gen. campagnolo "open C" derailer and shifter!---sam

mswantak 08-22-05 11:24 AM

Doesn't count unless we see some pics! :p
