Just a couple quick questions - because this has bugged me for a while...

I noted that djkashuba's gorgeous 60's Bianchi has the same "Made in Italy" sticker



as does my totally unrelated Ganna (pictured in the same thread)



which just happens to be the same sticker they stuck on my 1987 Bianchi CdI.

What's up?
Was this some kind of conspiracy?
Are they still using this same sticker today?

I would simply think that a previous rightly or wrongly stuck it on the bike.

Sorry BG, I'm not buying that explanation - 'Cause I had a second '87 Bianchi CdI (now sold) with that SAME label!!!

- It was a black one - Probably made for the Canadian market, which leads me to suspect that our friends from the Great White North are in on this plot!

Having seen this herald on any number of Italian bikes way back I guessed it was an Italian bike industry federation deal, a country of origin label was required and it was the path of least resistance to use this one.

I always liked the small label Cinelli used often affixed to the head tube. Similar to Version F above, but a dark dark blue background.

I first noticed the Herald on Legnanos and Bianchis. But this was 1970, who knows when it began.

There is also the oval Made In Italy decal - tricolori, chrome/foil highlights - that was around for quite a long time, too. Don't believe it had the legs of this one, though.

Your guesses sound plausible - but can anyone state categorically that it was an industry or country requirement?
- Still, that the same label(s) bridges so many brands and decades is remarkable - almost incredible.

Auchen, Everything, well almost, manufactured in another country and imported to the US has to have some sort of Country of Origin designation. I imagine that decal makers in Italy used the same ones for different brands if acceptable to the different manufacturers. My son's Olmo has a foil A or B design from the above link.

Canadian imports didn't/don't have that requirement, but if their imports first arrived in the US, they probably would have had to have an origin mark.

I wonder what "Made in...." decals were used on "hybrid origin" bikes like Alan framed Gitanes, Vitus framed Cilos.......or even the Swiss/Italian Titan framesets.
"Made in Italy" decals must be real rare thing to find on new "Italian" bikes by now.......replaced mostly by the very familiar gold and black "Made in China" ones....or those now becoming more common "Designed in Italy, made in China" ones.

I have seen this rather generic design made Italy label on numerous Italian products other than bicycles.

The European rules (EU) and Swiss rules for "made in" are an interesting read. A god percentage of the mfg. work need not have happened in country to achieve the "made in" status.

Brent - Indeed your label does not look like these others - so I guess Cinelli was not in on the game.

Brad - It isn't just the almost-universal application of the Made-in labels below, but their longevity that made me wonder. Three decades with the same design motif - it boggles the mind! That's a really long time for a bike manufacturer to use anything, don't you think?

I've painted a few bikes and purchased the same decal off eBay and put them on the frames, then sold the bikes.

Yeah, I like that one, seemed to turn up on the older Legnanos. I got some similar ones from a motorcycle decal supplier.

When I found it 5-6 years ago, I never thought to check it. It was low mileage so I just cleaned the BB and repacked it.It has forged drops and thickish non filed chrome lugs. Original equipment is Suntour with Barcons, with Dia Compe centerpulls. Has a Gran Compe stem too, total wild card. Not a combo you'd expect from a bike made in Mexico, IMHO. It kind of has the same vibe as my Volkscycle Mark 100. Every work day for me is roughly dark to dark, I will try to remember to measure it this weekend.,,,,BD
