The black plastic covering on the brake shoe guides was added under the CPSC mandated safety requirements. If the shoe holders don't have it, they are not period correct. These calipers don't look NOS to me anyway, IMHO. Also, the seller has no feedback.

Whatever . . . they're not NOS either; look at the grime buildup around washers and nuts, corrosion on the adjuster threads, minor scarring on the lever fronts. Not worth $230 even if they were NOS, IMO.

Poor images. Someone has removed the black plastic prophylactics from the wheel guides. I have done it. Interestingly, the earliest holders still had the text stamped into the guides under the plastic, later and I am sure by the time these alloy holders were made that text was long gone it disappeared when they were still steel and chrome plated. The giveaway in this case with the poor images are the alloy pad holders are the fastening nuts, thinner and stainless steel. Campagnolo when updating to the CPSC standards made the changes universal for all markets.

I would be tempted to move along as the images are not your friend.

And NOS? NOC, not a chance.

I dont deal we ith people who have attitudes like yours. I purchased these brakes with a Super Record Gruppo in 1982 or 1983. Fact! Anybody can take a picture of a part from a later set and say they are right. Get over yourself and learn how to use the English language. I have the same gruppo and the same brake pads/holders on my own Ciocc Bicycle which was purchased at the same time. I suggest that you find a better way to spend your time. Campagnolo has changed many things over the years, but I am sure that if you research what Campy sent with their gruppos in 1982 - 83, you will find what I have pictured.

Well, I cannot fully comment as you did not include your question to him but, no more time or money should be invested there it seems. Some people just don't wake up very happy. They should go an ride their bikes more.

Note the seller has zero feedback and 43 transactions. So, his prior activity must have been early on in his ebay career which began in 2008.

OK....a few things.

The pictures are soo bad its hard to tell if they're 'NOS'

What is 'NOS' anyways? It just means they've never been mounted...or they could be 'take-off's'.... that whole debate is for a different thread.

As mentioned by 'repechage' someone remove the black plastic molding from the pad holders.

Is it a Super Record brake set? Yes. Is it NOS? Without seeing better pictures who knows. Over priced? Just a little. SR brake sets go for really good money.

'Michael Angelo' that may be a NOS brake set but its not a Super Record brake set.

Just to chime in with what little knowledge I have on this subject: this would be an incomplete/incorrect Super Record set in any case as the brake shoe holders appear to be steel and not alloy. If they are steel and the triangular guides have the Brev. Campagnolo stampings, chances are good they never had the black coating (although repechage makes the point that the stampings continued for a short period after the coating was introduced). Steel = NR and alloy = SR.

The brakes look nice, just not $230 nice. And the seller showed his true colors in his response, so I'd run - not walk - away on this one.

even the nuts look like they are victory/triomphe thinner and not rounded as found on super record ..the brakes look dirty and rust if forming in spots .....but how can we know what we are talking about the seller owned a bike shop since 78 .......for some odd reason he cant sell them there

Well, his attitude reminds me of the LBS owner/operator we had in the small town I used to live in. Still trying to forget my visits to that shop.

The current bid is $99 which is a good price. If you could get them for $150 that would be a decent deal as they do appear to be in very good condition, however they definitely are NOT NOS and the brake pad holders are not correct!

BTW, something about the sellers reply reminds me of our "favorite" drillium Nazi from San Francisco.

Brake pad holds rea definitely not correct; also, they are really hard to find (even here in Italy).
BTW, I've just mounted them on my 87 De Rosa SLX and I'm sort of disappointed with the way they brake...

The term NOS (new old stock) actually means never sold at retail, except on eBay where it means looks fairly new.

Get some Kool Stop pads.

Get some modern dual pivot if you want to stop. Best improvement, other than Ergos, in the last generation.

And if you don't care about keeping a classic vintage bike vintage.

That must be in the ebay FAQ's somewhere as it is pervasive.

Fresh and in recently manufactured pads do stop better, Campagnolo does still sell them.

For the lack of a cable adjuster I installed a set of Campagnolo Daytona dual pivots on one of my mid 80's bikes. Yes, I have do adapt back to the Vintage Record single pivots when I swap bikes. Much less force required to stop with those.

Okay, monoplaners for mediocre stopping power.

You have to look pretty closely to tell the difference between original and black Kool Stops.
