Thanks for that, Neal. I learned me a new word.

BTW, I still have that cable hanger that you sent, even though I've been offered thousands for it.

The thing is, Roger, I have no memory of sending you that cable hanger!

BTW, I was on the RB-T today. Great bike--thanks for that one!

Same here.

i hate it when people don't read threads before responding.

...

I didn't read this thread. Did anyone mention this?

I hate it when someone posts a post with say, 12 pics. Then someone else quotes said post, leaves in all the pics, and simply adds "cool!" or something like that. Jimmy Christmas, what is wrong with you?

I also hate it when people don't proof read their poots. That really ticks me aft.

Lastly, cats.

It irritates me when I sell something to a person and they never acknowledge receiving it. I think it is common courtesy to say something like "Part arrived. Thanks." Then I know the deal is concluded and you think so also. It really irritates me when it is a pay it forward.

That most C&V'ers are really fifty plus but hide out here as gas pipe posing knob polishers 'cause that's special. Now is it ok to hang my French & Italian bikes side by side?

What? We can't be 50+ and gas pipe posing knob polishers?

Because I totally am.

(Is this where I say "YOLO" or "It is what it is?")

People who use Campy is stead of Campagnolo. How difficult is it to say/write Campagnolo?

Difference is that in C&V we talk about our old bikes and in 50+ they talk about their old selves.

I hate it when a spoke calculator database doesn't have the rim I intend to build. Also when it has the rim but is ambiguous, f'rinstance "xxx" vs. "xxx New Style" with different ERD and no way to tell which is mine.

I hate scientists and engineers who can't measure a rim.

He! I can measure it 3 or 4 different ways, but it means taking a wheel apart first or at least removing the tire without having ordered the spokes I want to rebuild it with. During the subsequent time I won't have a functional wheel unless I re-string it just to de-string it again. On the other hand, if could make time stand still or just order up a few spare days...

I'm just giving you a hard time, Jim
I'd pull the tire, measure the circumference and divide by pi, then across the BSD 3 times, and take a weighted average based on what the perceived accuracy is. I bet you would get it within 2mm, which would give you the right spoke length within 1mm, and that's an acceptable tolerance for spoke length. Alternatively, pull a spoke out.

A few from today's ride.

If you are a stranger and you grab my wheel, introduce yourself first before you stare at my ass for the next 10 minutes. Or buy me flowers.

If you are in your aerobars, ride with your knees together instead of spread like a $2 tramp. If you want to be aero, be aero.

If you are in your aerobars, don't wear a hugely oversized floppy tie-dyed long sleeve tee shirt. If you want to be aero, be aero. Not the same guy as above.

I know. I was just playing the scientist to irritate holiday.

The divide-by-pi method is one I proposed a few years ago to a similar query. If I was going to pull spokes I could just measure them and compensate for how much I think they are too short. Or pull opposite spokes and measure the actual diameter in a few places. The pi method can be done with a string but that gives you only the ERD of the rim strip surface. If the spoke nipples are recessed then you also have to compensate for the amount the nipple bearing surface is recessed. Either way it isn't a tough task. But it still means pulling the tire off. I need to retire anyway. There is not enough time in the day!

pet peeve, anyone?

When did bikes start coming with cockpits?

I build bikes but my bike isn't a build.

I have cranks a chain and freewheel, but I don't have a drivetrain or transmission.

Grip tape goes on skate boards.

Shellac seals wood and water stains. I don't use it anywhere around my bike.

Twine?

Simplex derailleurs work quite well. Don't believe the trash talk.

No peeves but I might be the one that peeves others. Sometimes I just show up on rides with old stuff just to mess with others heads.

Shorty fenders, bar bags and extra's really freaks them. haha

edit: Oh believe me I'm bike fashion conscience.... I love those new day glow orange and yellow loose fitting TENNIS shirts! If your a racer and sponsored, then you deserve to wear the lycra rolling billboard.
