OK, I got a red white and blue Paramount bike with a 2A01887 serial number . Is this a panasonic built team bike or what? Somebody let me know what I got and where to look for parts

The serial number indicates it's a National/Panasonic built PDG Series Paramount. If it has a unicrown fork, it's a PDG Series bike.

Yup -- Team USA red-white-and-blue, like my mountain bike.

I had one exactly like the one about about two years ago. It was a PDG bike but no number designation. Just said "Series PDG". Built from Tange OS tubing. Nice bike but it never did anything for me and sold it. Luckily I've got the real deal now.

It's a very nice PDG Series Paramount made by National/Panasonic in Japan for Schwinn using Tange/PDG OS tubing. Your best source of information about it would be Marc Muller at Waterford Precision Cycles. It's fairly rare in that it wasn't a "numbered" Series bike (Series 2, Series 3, Series 5, Series 7) and didn't, to my knowledge, appear in the Paramount catalogs.

Is that a Columbus frame with a Tange fork?

Nice looking bike what is the deal with the handlebars and break levers? What component group is that?

Looks like my size might be interesting to give it a spin and see how that OS tube rides.

Dave, I'm pretty sure all of the PDG Series road Paramount frames and forks used Tange OS tubing.

The specs for all of the PDG Series road Paramounts appearing in the early nineties catalogs say, "Paramount Design Group/Tange OS Triple-Butted" tubing for the frames, implying that PDG and Tange had worked jointly to develop the tubes. The forks were "Tange, Chrome-Moly, Unicrown."

What a crap job of a fixie conversion! As far as parts, just about any modern components will fit, you will need to seek advise from you local bike shop to get correct types and compatabilites with what is left on the bike.

I thought so- but that tag at the bottom of the seat tube looks like it could be a Columbus sticker- I recall those tags being higher. But, of course, looking at the other pic you posted, it's at the bottom as well...

I briefly had a PDG Series MTB. It didn't have a number designation- but it had been pillaged for parts, and when I got it, the seat tube was cracked around one of the seat stays, it was crudely covered up with spray paint. But it had the cool PDG decals...

Since the only photo is of the non-driveside it's impossible to tell if somebody drewed the derailleur hanger. That would be a real shame.

This is a crappy picture of the PDG/Tange OS tubing sticker (on a PDG Series 7).

The Team US colored road frames I've seen don't have a number designations and don't appear in catalogs from my search. Though all Series frames use Tange tubing and never used any other tube brand. I believe the dropouts were also Tange if my memory serves me correctly. I also believe these were some of the first year Pana-mounts.

Marc Muller has confirmed that there were some early (late '89/early '90) TIG-welded PDG OS Series road Paramounts that didn't have series numbers and were painted white. The lugged un-numbered bikes with red/white/blue team paint scheme may have been a similar exercise.

Also does anyone sell a quickshift minikit with downtube adapters and derailiers included ?

The PDG bikes were built 1990 to 1992 or a bit more. The serial number would indicate the it was a January 1992 built frame. What is a quickshift mini kit? Roger

If they are Shimano derailleurs you can probably use 7-speed shifters (either old nice ones like RSX ST-A410 or new plasticky Tourney ones ST-A070) without changing the derailleurs at all.

I wana put what the white PDG Series above has with the shifters on with the brakes and has adapters on the down tube for the cable guard ends. ah yes thats the ticket. Anyone?
