First Vintage Trek
I've heard nice things about old Treks and finally got a chance to find out if they were true. According to the serial # list on Vintage-Trek.com it is a 1982 Trek 614. Some non-original parts including the front wheel, but definitely ridable as-is. First impression is it has a pretty nice ride. Been a loooong time since I messed with friction shifters so that will be a bit of a challenge, but it will make a fun change for shorter local rides. Here is the obligatory pic, sorry for the lack of quality:
I need to fix a couple of small surface rust spots on the rt. chainstay and put on a better set of tires, but nothing major to be done that I can see.

That's going to be a fantastic bike!
A 600 series bike is going to be up on the food chain- for a long time, I would have KILLED for that 531 logo. The forks look to be the Ishiwata version of Mangalloy- I had a Trek 420 that was all Mangalloy and it was a great riding bike.
What are your plans for the bike? Keep it all "vintage-y" or change and upgrade what you feel is desired or necessary?

Definitely keeping it vintage. I can't bring myself to modernize something this close to original.

Nice looking Trek. I am keeping an eye out for one myself but they always pop up at the wrong time. That half-step plus granny gearing looks pretty classic.

Nope Bianchigirll, this pic was before the first ride after I cleaned it up a bit. Owning a fly shop is what us old guides do when the knees and back start to hurt, being in the business of fly fishing lets me afford an old bike or two from time to time. My business partner and I have as much space in the back room with bikes parked as we do with our personal rod collections. Best thing about this one, I traded for it instead of parting with my folding money.

Just took it a couple of miles through downtown and the ride is sweet! This is going to be a fun bike once I get the POS tires replaced with something good.

Nice bike. My '83 620 looks similar and I love the ride. Don't know what I'll end up doing with it though, as it's about a size too small. Hope you enjoy yours!

Yeah, I like old stuff. I have a 2003 Lemond Nevada City for days I want to ride something a little more modern with brifters and such but I mostly ride 10 miles or less at a shot and love the older rides.
