Aero brake lever cable stop... Argh!
Just got a nice pair of Dia Compe Gran Compe aero brake levers won off eBay. Looking them over, and I notice that the hole for the brake cable looks awfully big... Some searching later and I know I'm missing a part.
My question is this: the hole in the lever body is threaded, but I keep reading people mention a bullet shaped cable stop. Did these levers use a different stop that threaded in? There is a chamfer above the threaded part, so maybe it's compatible with multiple types? I am contacting the seller to see if they have the part, but already thinking of alternatives like drilling out a bolt of the appropriate size. This is my first encounter with aero cable routing where the brake lever only works the brakes... I kinda skipped straight from outside cable routing to ergo shifters before this.

I am not sure if the bullet ones fit in there or not but I don't see why they wouldn't work. IIRC I believe the threaded ones were actually factory crimped on to the housing.
I have a pair of the bullet ones if you PM or email me your address I'll get them in the mail for you. How few and far between are bike shops in your area? I would be asking around there, but a pic of the item may be helpful.

I guess that would make sense why they're gone now, seller replied that he didn't have the cables anymore. I will be checking bike shops today, just wanted to confirm the part because of the threading I noticed.

The ferrule listed in post #2 on Ebay is what you want, they will work with the levers you have better then the threaded ferrules that came with them IMHO. I have had problems with the threaded Dia Compe cables in the past in that they would bind once tightened down to the bars and wrapped, ( Because the angle they come out of the lever is too sharp once tightened down ) but once I switched to the non threaded ferrules the problem went away. I have a bunch of the Dia Compe cables with the threaded ferrules that have been removed by a bike shop because of the same problem I was having. I went and bought a bag of them just now from the link above as my stash was getting low and I have a few lever sets around that will need them.

I have spares stashed away if I ever add another set since most old lever sets are missing the essential parts.

Yeah, I was noticing that while thinking about drilling out a small bolt. The second shop I visited had a pair of the rounded type in stock. No charge along with some other stuff, so I'm in business now. Yay, my first aero levers!
