Scapin bikes/frames
Anybody have insight on these? Very elusive creatures:
Vintage Scapin Italian Bike Frame Columbus SLX Campagnolo Cinelli | eBay
They seem pretty nice. SLX, etc.

Scapin made some really nice frames and then also some very bling-y frames with less-than-top-range tubing but still high quality craftsmanship and finish. This looks like the best with SLX tubing and the bling-y finish: well worth considering a BUY.

They seem to come up around here on craigslist every so often. I could have bought a nice example with record group on it just a few weeks ago but I backed out that day due to another appt. I was going to meet the guy a couple days later but he sold it. I had another chromo velato green one a while back and sold it, so i'm not too excited about them. I think they are going to be worth around 3-600.00 depending what group is on them.

I think these are one of those bike, like Olmo and to some extend Moser, that fly under the radar. The usually seem very ornate or very plain but it is my understand they are great riders. I took a customers beautiful orange Cromovelto w/ Victory ofr a nice ride once and seem like a great machine.
If the timing and size was right I would snatch one of these up. At 400 this may be a good deal with the SLX and all the chrome.

That would be very tempting to me. I love my lowly Aelle Scapin. Rides very nicely. Room for 28mm tires in back. And in front on mine, but it has aftermarket fork.

This post had me run over to see what Scapin was up to these days, and Ooooh, looks like they're gonna offer a nice lugged frame again. Eleanor has been a fixed gear bike for the last couple of years but now...

Was just reminiscing about my Scapin today. Sold it a while back and have seller's remorse. I bought the frameset on ebay, it was someone's commuter bike, and the paint was in rough shape. Stripped it all off to find that the entire frame was chromed. I paid a lot less than what this listing is asking but this frame is in much nicer condition that the one I bought.

The Scapin that I had was truly unimpressive to look at - the paint was awful even by low standards and the workmanship was likewise uninspiring. I think they misapplied the primer. I thought it was a turd in terms of presentation, but it was far too big for me and I never rode it. Even the panto looked sloppy.
Based on the one I briefly had...it's not a brand I have any interest in owning.
