Carry on.

I need to find the death creak in my bike - it's getting worse. It actually creaks or clicks just gently rolling it in the driveway (no weight on anything, no force on the pedals). I'm thinking rear wheel now, time for a swap.

Are you suggesting maybe there's a crack in the frame somewhere? Or is the paint making noise?

the noise was getting louder more he road the bike last week. Its either the wheels (again) or the frame since he already took apart the cranks.

It was the rear wheel, or presumably the skewer, because the wheel rolls quietly with no skewer clamped in there.. Same exact problem as before, only the skewer was loose last time. I obviously bee-lined to that solution this time and it was TIGHT. I'll try a different skewer.

Unbelievable how loud a skewer problem is.

back on the bike today https://www.strava.com/activities/534013526 fighting some headwind, being pushed by a tail wind.... good ride. The restaurant was out of apple cobbler, and I didn't feel like fighting the wind to go to the brewery for an 8oz Porter (beer).

Got the tires rotated on my Xterra today. Have put 5K on them since I had them installed late October. Yay long commute. NOT. While that was happening I rode my bike to The Unlikely Cyclist

So I found out a pub, on my favorite bike loop closed a couple months ago. So disappointing, as I could've used a pint after fighting a 35mph headwind yesterday.

Pressurize the bike and pour soapy water on it. Look for bubbles. Works every time!

Glad to see you back at it. The Super Clyde team needs some more action!

If you weren't so blasted far away I would say come ride with me as we can hit a brewery and get some fresh Porter

I didn't have my 20 miles yesterday when I stopped to visit with family that was passing through so I only had black coffee.....for me 20 miles equals an 8oz beer as a reward

Creak update. Creakdate?

Tried a variety of other known quiet skewers, no joy. The wheel is quiet if I just set it in the frame and the second I clamp the skewer down it creaks, even if I'm just rolling the bike. I put my old wheel in for today's ride - dead silent.

Argh. I bought the wheels from Nashbar back in November on sale... (Easton EA90SL). Anybody know if Performance will do warranty repairs on nashbar sold items? I may just try to find a performance and ask - there are none near me though, which is a pity.

If I can find my DA skewers I'll try those. Those are reputedly the best.

Tried anything simple, like putting grease on the surface where the hub/axle clamps into the dropout?

17.6 miles tonight with a break close to the end of the ride (three miles from home) for a small order of tater tots and a small black coffee. https://www.strava.com/activities/538000405

Nope, I haven't. I do have some new skewers inbound.

Frankly, I've never greased any wheel/frame interface before so I hope that's not it. I'll try it though.

I also have till November to return the wheel to Nashbar so I might just work an exchange some time this month.

Holy crap, new skewers arrived today from Chain Reaction in Northern Ireland. 3 days?

Hopefully I'll have time to test DrIsotopes theory and then the new skewers tomorrow... otherwise it's back to the mothership.

Oh, in other news, we got about .000004 inches of rain today so I didn't ride. Sad, I know.

Thanks for posting this, I thought it was next weekend. I'm not sure how to watch it live, as I usually just watch the 1/2 hr highlight video on YouTube later in the day (watching 6hrs of bike riding would be pretty boring!). Weather in northern France/Paris is supposed to be sunny all day with rain moving in in the evening, so they should get it in without the sloppy mud. High temp for the day projected to be about 47F/7C, great for a long ride though the French countryside

Are the dropouts misalligned?

It wouldn't be the axle being just a smigen too long would it?

Good luck and cheers

Ever since I met you, you've always had mechanical issues. Cranks, chains, skewers, derailleurs, wheels, noises, etc. Maybe it's your bike mechanic

Weird that a skewer would cause creaking, good luck.

Replaced my rear derailleur cable and housing tonight, it's shifting better than ever - so now it's definitely going to rain tomorrow.
