Goal is 100 for the first time...

5/16: 11.89
5/10: 4.92
5/6: 4.73
5/2: 5.9

month so far - 27.44 miles

getting there... I need to increase frequency. The miles will come as my endurance increases. I'm also walking 2-3 x's a week at 2-4 miles a time.

5/13 - 6.58
5/14 - 12.53 (I like this nice ride. Takes about an hour off the clock, bike lanes for the most part and very light traffic.)
5/15 - 6.14 (AM Commute) Today was the local Bike to Work Day.
5/15 - 5.17 (PM Commute, with idiots.) Had a couple people pull in front of me, on bikes no less. And there was the girl walking in the middle of the bike lane. At least she was facing traffic, didn't mean she actually got out of the way.
5/15 - 24.78 (Evening ride). My weekly ride with my best friend and riding partner.

I'm off the bike until my first metric on Saturday unless I take a cruise tomorrow night into the Farmer's Market. It's very cool as they have a local bike group do a bike valet.

MTD - 268.08
YTD - 757

(During the metric on Saturday I'll surpass my entire 2012 mileage in about 2+ months of riding this year.)

Hope it's 'watch your dog run away for a week' flat and(!) you have some drafting help;

https://bikecalculator.com/index.html

185 lb rider; 20 lb bike with a .1% grade which is only(!) 500' gain over 100 miles (not likely there) no headwind that link says that will take an average power of 222 watts.

For 5 hrs that's not an easy task. That's at the top of Tempo or into Threshold for many a rider. To get that into an Endurance wattage zone you have to have an FTP of ~300 Watts.

By myself; that dog ain't hunting. With a few other STRONG riders, no stop signs and flat flat flat... maybe.

A 6 hour solo flat century is very realistic for many as that's *cough* ONLY(!) a 17 mph avg *cough*

I'm sure some of our esteemed colleagues that know more about what it takes to accomplish a feat such as that can chime in.

edit:
I went and did a 1 hr ride and plugged in my numbers. The wattage required by the website is ~20% higher than what Golden Cheetah and Garmin report I really used. (avg power 240W, .9% grade)

That said, 20 mph is a tough one to crack for any real length of time. Don't think I can do a tempo pace for 100 miles.

Might I suggest you move?

Mike - here's an excellent read from another place I belong for trying to get to 20 mph:

https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...rove-MPH/page2

You'll see that the difference between 17 and 20 mph is HUGE in terms or required power.

Now go forth and interval...

Had two flats today, one on each tire. I think I got some bad tubes when I had the shop replace my tires. At least I can do the change out in the field with these tires. My previous tires I couldn't get off the rims to save my life. But they also never flatted. So there's that.

Today was a long day. I couldn't sleep, so I woke up at 3:30 am, and surfed the web. I had to leave at 5:15am, since I was volunteering for a charity bike ride. I was on my feet from 6am-9:30 am helping with registration, then at 9:45 am, I headed out for a 30 mile ride. My longest ever.

At about mile 26, my nipples were hard enough to cut to cut glass. It was chaffing on my Tshirt. I know it happens to marathoners, but I didn't think it happens to cyclist. I did wear a cotton tshirt, which I realize is not ideal, but I didn't have any problems on my 28 mile ride about two weeks ago. I think I'll either get some bodyglide, or get a cycling tshirt before my next long ride. I got a cycling shirt on clearance in XL, but I'm probably about 2 months away from fitting in it.

The actual ride length was 32.1 miles today. It puts me at 204 KM, with a goal of 250KM. I would be really surprised if I don't hit my goal by this Wednesday. Because I'm close enough to my goal, I'm going to raise if from 250km, to 175 miles. (the strava challenge is why I'm using metric for my goals)

About 126 miles and 7,900' gain today - that makes it a 'bumpy' day

Tomorrow I leave for "up north." It is 41 degrees there today. Yuck. I rode 7.7 yesterday, doing hill intervals, and rode 31 miles today so I am at 240 for the month and 1994 for the year. I won't have much riding in for the next few days because rain and high winds are in the forecast. I don't do rain.

5/18 - 60 California Classic Weekend Metric. My first Metric! I was talking to my friend I do event rides with it just got to be monotonous. Just cranking away. The last 1/3 to 1/4 of the ride was not that scenic. Just the blah country (farms). It's like once you cross that 30 mile/2 hour mark it loses the fun factor. Maybe when I'm more fit. The ride wasn't as hard as I thought. We missed a couple of hills that I thought were going to be on the route but they weren't. I guess I should have looked at the map closer. I forgot to turn on the Garmin until 2 miles in so things are a little off.

MTD - 324.96

YTD - 814
