That's plenty for those fatties. If you follow the 37mm line on Berto or Heine's charts you'll get about 50/60psi and if there were a 40mm line it would be lower. Berto's writeup also has a MTB section which kind of implies you should be in the forties.

FWIW my 37-622 aka 700x35c size measure about 36mm wide on rims that are 16/19mm inside/outside.

Is the squeak constant or does it happen at a certain point during the rotation?

Bikes: Marin Four Corners, 1960's Schwinn Racer in middle of restoration, mid 70s Motobecane Grand Touring, various other heaps.

No noise in straight line, constant low level squeal when leaning/cornering.

Thanks for the measurements...that puts my mind at ease a bit. I had thought maybe tires were too big for the rim...but my ratios are about the same as yours..17mm inner width

I buy tires for how they ride, and if that means I won't have puncture protection, I'm cool with that. Same for reflective strips. But the Hyper comes with both. I haven't had a flat. I don't know if the reflective strip works, but I haven't been hit from the side yet.

Overall, this is the best tire I have ever bought, by most measures. I should have gotten the next size down, because it's difficult to fit such a wide tire in my favorite bike.

Continental and Schwalbe make some of the best tires, but their reputations allows them to command high prices. Vittoria tires seem to be at least as good in every respect, and the prices are lower.
Haven't read the full thread yet so forgive me if this has been addressed, but where are you getting these tires? They sound good to me, as I was about to get a pair of continental gatorskins, but on amazon the vittorias cost under a dollar less than the continentals.

SeraphimF, I got them from planetx.co.uk in August 2014 when they were on sale very cheap. They do seem to be hard to get at a good price in the US.

I got them from PlanetX as well. $17 a piece.

Dunno about Vittorias, but that's normal with many new tires. My Michelins and Innova tires -- both similar chevron tread, all-weather, most-terrain types -- squeaked on cornering when brand new on dry smooth pavement. Same as new basketball shoes on a court. Stops after a few rides.

Hah good to know. I was starting to get a little paranoid. I noticed the rubber felt drastically different than my last tires as well. Not really softer exactly, but more tacky.

Optimizing # 1 and #2 are at the expense of # 3 ..

I found the link later on in the thread! Pretty good price, I could put them on my commuter but I already have tires that are faring..suitably, and plan on getting nokian a10s for later in the winter, plus some skinner (maybe 28) somewhat puncture resistant tires for a new road bike, I wish I could go all out! I haven't been cycling for long (maybe 5 years total of my life) but I've so far gotten something like one flat, ever, so it is not dire. But its good to know I can get these for cheap, they're the perfect size/specs for the bike I use to commute.

Squeaky sound is gone! All is well. Comfy ride, no flats on first 12 mile commute, and they seem to roll well, though it's tough to tell with a headwind the whole way.
