I bought size medium, which should be 32-34 from their sight. I typically wear 33" waist trousers. One of the pairs was uncomfortably tight, but had enough material so that I was able to let it out a bit more than an inch (I look for any opportunity to use one of my vintage sewing machines). I found that they ease a bit with wearing so perhaps a half-inch would have been sufficient. The second pair was tight, but I was able to fix by relocating the buttons for the fly (yep, no zipper on these) gaining about a half inch. Both pairs were marked as Italian size 48 which should be equivalent to US 32.
Hope this helps.

I might need to get me a pair of those, though they're $20 on the website now, not $10. I usually wear a 30" waist. I wonder if a medium would work? Retro-tweedy works for me.
Where did you get these socks?
ETA: Oops, missed the bit about two pairs. Not that I need two pairs. And it sounds like a medium might be too big.

The socks I bought are amazingly warm. They are Redhead over-the-knee "Wader" socks, available at Bass Pro Shops. They are mostly merino wool and are guaranteed for a year.

I received my order yesterday. Apparently, I am not as this as I think (32" trousers, I must have stretched them out). I order medium. I received 1 48 and 1 46. The 48 is snug, but wearable. I couldn't even button the 46. At the price, I just decided to order a set of large and attempt the mods suggested by Moe.
