I was NOT feelin' it this morning, turned out to be a nice ride. Another confirmation of my motto, always ride even if I don't want to! The bonus was I missed the morning thunderstorms

I probably should have taken your advice, but wound up driving. The streets were wet this morning, but I could have made it to work without getting rained on. They are still calling for rain this afternoon, but at less than a 50% chance... I probably should have commuted today.

See! That said if I leave early (which I was hoping to do) there's 75% of thunderstorms

Got up early with the intention of taking the long way to work and tacking on an extra 10 miles or so. It was dark, so it wasn't until I rolled the bike out the garage that I noticed it was still drizzling and the roads were wet. Last night the weather said the rain was supposed to stop by 3 AM.

Decided I wasn't motivated enough to tack on extra mileage in the rain. Went back inside and snoozed for 1/2 hour, then I got up and took the direct 8 mile route to work. Most of the drizzle had stopped by then and it was just wet roads.

Was really nice and sunny today. Although still a little cold at 39F. I was off the bike for the last two days (vacation and WFH). I hear that we are supposed to get 1.2 inches of rain tomorrow and a monsoon. So may not ride tomorrow. Will see when I get up and check the weather...

I was thinking I ought to ride into work, but I feel like I'm not sleeping well, even though the hours of sleep are OK. Riding today would have helped me wake up or would have added to my malaise; I'm not sure which. Also, I have an appointment this evening in midtown and would have to lock my bike up outside. That would probably be OK but I'm hesitant to do that much any more with bike theft being as bad as it is. Crime has gone way down in most US cities, but bike theft is as bad as ever in NYC and Boston and a few other places. It must be because bike thieves are some of the stupidest criminals.

Dry, 40F. Took the roadbike, left the coat at home. Awesome ride. Very nice to not be shackled by rack/panniers.

It seemed like blinding sun but basically it was thinner clouds to the east and no clouds to the west. This is what passes for sunny and no clouds around here.

I spent yesterday out on Long Island, planting the garden, so my wife can keep herself busy pulling weeds all summer . This morning at 5 AM I got on my folding bike under a dark sky full of bright stars and rode to the train station, like every day except that this was not my usual station. I got on the train to NYC, and promptly fell asleep. It was still dark.

Waking up on the train is always a disorienting experience, especially if you're not even sure what train you're on. I woke up just a minute or two before my train disappeared into the tunnel into Manhattan. I opened my eyes to find the whole Manhattan skyline laid out in front of me, illuminated by the sun rising behind me, and it was staggeringly beautiful. I'm not a New Yorker, and I don't love this place like many of its citizens, but wow, what a view.

I've had a great couple of days. Tuesday after work I rode to the gym, then from the gym I had to go by my eye dr. to pick up my new sunglasses. It was about 7 miles out of my way. I get there with a few minutes to spare... they closed early. :-(

However... it was still a good ride because my alternate route took me past some nice scenery.

After three days of a lot of miles (for me), I decided to work from home on Wednesday, but still stuck to my "no-car week" goal. I went out in the afternoon and road to the eye dr. and finally got my new shades and then road to the pool. About 8 miles. Swam some laps then fell asleep in the sun by the pool (sorry northern folks).

Untitled by Thomas Lester, on Flickr

I the road back out to get some dinner and put in another 10 miles or so for the night.

Today was a great ride into the office. Beautiful weather... has been all week. I'm trying to enjoy as much of it as I can before it starts to feel like we are colliding with the sun. This weekend will be the toughest part of my no-car week as I'm on the outskirts of town... technically... in another county. So, for entertainment this week, I'll be putting in 20-30 mile rides each way (if I go to the movies, the mall... or my favorite bike shop's annual customer appreciation sale).

haha... no... LOTS of gators in those waters. Next time, I'll get some photos of some. There is a restaurant to the left of that dock shot. People feed the gators there. So, around dinner time, the come wanting food. No gators in the pool, though ;-)

Wet today. It was raining hard when I got up, but when time came to get on the bike it seemed like it had stopped, so I chanced it.

Eh. It started up again as soon as I was on the road, and kept at it most of my ride. By the time I got to the station it had stopped again, but the front of my pants and the tops of my shoes are pretty wet. And the train is cold. Ugh.

Tom, I used a parking garage when I had to go to a training class downtown last year. I recall paying $6 for the day. Was a decent alternative since I didn't know if the training company (or the building mgmt) would let me bring my bike in. It turned out that it was ok to bring it in. So did that for the remaining three days and saved some $.

Some rain overnight and early this morning. I only felt a little sprinkle or two on my ride in though. Wet roads of course. After several wet rides the past 2 weeks, my bike is a dirty mess and could use a tune-up too. I can do the cleaning but would rather a shop do the tuning.

Wife suffered from migraine this morning but was going to work anyway. Drove her in, then continued on to my work place. No bike commute today but I'll try to get a bike ride in this evening (unless the freezing rain does show up).

Pretty nice morning for a commute. Sunny, 41°F with an 8 mph headwind. Ran 4 miles and then rode to work.

Looks like I'll finish the month with 283 commuting miles. Not my highest March ever, but decent. My current client assignment means my commute is shorter than it is other years. I'm at 738 total miles for the year, which is still 70 miles ahead of where I was on this day last year. So that's cool.

heh that got me to looking, and I'll have 291 commuting miles for March. Most likely that is my highest ever, but mostly because I had at least 60 extra miles from my new e-bike that I wouldn't have commuted to work otherwise.

Ride this morning was okay. I decided since the e-bike is so much faster that I could leave later, so I left at 6:30 instead of 6. Slightly more traffic, but also more daylight which was nice. Had one guy not fully change lanes to pass (same state trooper I've had issues with before) and another person passing right in front of an oncoming car.

That's a great reminder. I wouldn't want to pay that regularly, but it's good to have it as a possibility. If I go to midtown hoping to find a willing garage, I'm willing to deal with failure and then locking. My chances of finding a garage are pretty good. Thanks!

51F and rain. The ride home yesterday was one my scariest on-bike moments. When I left it was clouding up but almost 70 and radar was mostly clear. Shortly after getting on the main MUP I started hearing thunder but still no big deal. As I got close to one of the most open spots of my commute I started hearing a loud droning roar. Looking to the west (my left) I saw what looked like rain but didn't think that was the source of the noise. It was, and it wasn't rain - it was sideways hail.

When it hit the wind immediately went from zero to 20+, the temp dropped at least 10 degrees, and the hail was wicked. I've been in hailstorms before but this sucked. I was screaming like a little girl (sorry for the sexist reference) and what made it worse was there was nowhere to get out of it. I have welts (still) on my left side shoulder and torso. I was able to keep my face out by pointing my helmet into the wind. It probably lasted no more than a couple minutes but was terrifying. I hope never to do that again!

my rides have been really good, i've had two incidents this year that i'd rather forget, but for the most part it's been great. beautiful desolate mornings. vibrant lively afternoons. perfect ride days.

i have gotten paddling gloves from MEC (canadian equivalent of REI) - and they work like a charm in the rain. good grip, neoprene keeps it all warm, and fingers for dexterity. highly recommend it.

using the cycliq to report unsafe people out there. to NYC's 311 and the like. probably nothing comes of it. but one day hope the footage will be more available/seen/used.

It was wetter than I expected this morning, with standing water on the streets. I'd taken the road bike - without fenders - so I didn't want to deal with the Greenway. It's not the water so much as the mud and other debris that gets thrown up with it, and there tends to be a lot of it on the Greenway after overnight rains so I took to the streets instead. The upside is that the clouds of yellow-green pine pollen have been temporarily washed from the air.

Uneventful, except that I need to do that route more often, to train some newer drivers on the commute on dealing with bikes. No big deal, but I habitually establish a position approaching an intersection and one SUV wanted to passive-aggressively contest it. Creeping up faster than necessary, drifting over, that sort of thing, so I shot past (it was well back from the intersection) and established in the lane in front through the intersection and then scooted over. After they see that it's pointless and doesn't slow them down any they tend to stop doing that.

arsprod Jesus wept!

Windy here today. This morning it's a gentle tail wind... this afternoon it will grow to a brutish headwind. At least the sun is shining!

Bikes: ...a few.

Got completely soaked this morning getting to work. Heavy rain. 40+ km/h headwind. WTF!

Got less wet on the way home, but still wet. Wind was supposed to be at my back, but didn't feel like helped nearly as much as it hurt this morning. WTF??

Our Friday lunch bunch met close enough that I could ride to the taqueria, too. Basically slogged through the wind there and coasted back.
