Today would normally have been a riding day but I was feverish last night and don't feel 100% this morning.

Also, this happened at work yesterday. Today we are supposed to learn our individual fates. Anyone hiring? I can draw CAD and write Matlab :-D

Yuck. Thankfully forgetting my FOB isn't that big of a deal.

Our office only requires a FOB outside of normal business hours (8 to 5). I arrive early so I can shower, but after that I generally don't need my FOB for the rest of the day. Seeing as a co-worker showed up at the exact same time as me, it turned into a complete non-issue for me. Viewing the parking lot, there was one person already inside as well so at worst I would have just had to walk around to the back of the building and bang on the window by his desk to have him let me in. Which wouldn't have been the first time.

Back on my bike this week, need to recover from running aches/pains. Beautiful rides in--cool, sunrise, birds out, spring.

Good luck on the Boston Marathon and at this point the weather looks very nice for that day.

I did not ride today as I am going to get a new tire put on my bike after a haircut today. The back tire seems bald and yet the front tire looks as if it is still fairly new. They were both bought and put on at the same time.

Bikes: ...a few.

Two days in a row the rain was nice enough to wait just until I am leaving for work to start.

Thanks. I just learned what the little bungee stretchy thing is for on the middle of the shoe. The lace on my right shoe got caught in the big chainring and nearly tore in half. So I now tuck the shoe laces under the little bungee on both sides. They are pretty comfortable so no complaints there. I have no idea how long they will last. Will see. Also note that they are not as stiff and don't "grip your foot" like the Bont A-three. But I wasn't really expecting that for a simple $50 shoe with nylon soles.

Another great day today. I wimped out and did the park and ride. Will probably ride form home tomorrow.

Bikes: 3 good used ones

Due to vacation and some really nasty weather beforehand, today was my first ride to work in about three weeks. The upside is that I rode quite a bit during my time off work. So, I never really fell out of shape. That made for a really nice strong ride in this AM.

Sunny, but a bit chilly with no wind. I call it nearly ideal.

Yesterday I started feeling something odd in my lower back. Not really pain, just a weakness that was hard to explain.

When I woke up this morning it was still there. However it wasn't bad so I went out for a 4.5 mile run. The further I went the more I could start feeling some pain in my lower back. The last couple miles it was making itself quite known. However as soon as I stopped running it suddenly became extremely bad.

I limped inside. While either standing or sitting the pain is bearable. Transitioning from one position to the other, however, causes shooting pain to go down my left leg. I think I've managed to get some sciatica.

After showering and loading myself up with ibuprofen it was all I could do to get my shoes and socks on. I thought about just driving to work but my consecutive streak is at 273 days and I decided the only way I'm breaking it is to be physically unable to ride the bike. I decided to at least give it a try before I threw in the towel.

Somehow, using a precise combination of willpower and stupidity I made it to work on the bicycle. It hurt real bad at times, so I geared down and went really slow. Now I'm sitting here at work wondering how long I'm going to make it. I may throw in the towel and go back home where I can lay down.

Never really had an issue with back pain before. I'm starting to empathize with people who deal with this chronically.

59°F with a light tail wind. Nice ride. I stopped to remove my jacket at one point, and saw a opossum nosing around off the side of the road, up a grassy hill. When he saw me, he headed back for cover.

Thanks! Your tire wear is normal. Expect the front to last 2 - 3 times as long as the back tire.

A good ride in this morning with temps just under 60F. I ride in two different counties. The one I work in has spring break this week, so much less traffic in that area in the morning. The one I live in is still in school and has off next week, so normal traffic around there. Odd, I think they usually have their calendars better synchronized.

Wow, your Spring Break is actually during Spring!

My county's schools were out a month ago for break!

Darth Lefty possibly relocate some of the positions to Huntsville, AL I see, I guess because of NASA's rocket testing facilities in that area?

The last really big rocket firing in Sacramento was I guess about fifteen years ago. Recent firings have been done at Stennis SC, Edwards AFB, Hill AFB, and AEDC.

Redstone is not any better for testing than Aerojet, becoming landlocked by Huntsville and its suburbs, which is ironic, really, since the only reason for Huntsville is Redstone & MSFC. But they do lots of smaller Army-sized stuff.

I haven't given it up entirely as I still enjoy zoning out on a run which is something I can't afford to do on a bike.

I'd also have to give up eating to excess, which is something I've proven I'm unable to do.

Running on top of my cycling is the only thing keeping me from being a complete blimp (right now I'm only a partial blimp.)

Some people eat to run. Others run to eat.

I'm a little bit of both.

Wife was feverish again this morning so rode in once the nanny arrived after lunch. Breezy and very light rain. I got this neato North Face thermoball jacket a while ago. It has a beautiful pattern that sort of looks like gray stained wood grain. This is the first time I've worn it for a ride. It's doing great as stylish outerwear but it felt like pedaling a kite. I think as a serious down layer, it's a size too big in my shoulders and I'm a size too big in my belly!
