Overshoes for platform pedals

I'm wondering what other folks use for overshoes on their commutes. I ride 4 miles one way, which takes 20-30 minutes depending on conditions. For about 8 years I've used the not-so-attractive Gore Bike Wear city overshoes. I'm a US men's size 10 and found the Gore overshoes size Lg to work well.

I keep a set of rain gear at work and at home and the overshoes at work finally gave out today so I'm in the market for a new pair. It looks like a lot of review sites focus on clipless overshoes, which wouldn't fit the shoes I commute in (some Chrome Dima slip-ons).

I'm looking for something that's primarily waterproof and don't really care about insulation. What do you wear? What are the pro's and con's? How does sizing work for you?

I wear 2 plastic grocery bags over each my shoes and fasten them with rubber bands, one around my foot and one around my leg, depending on the temp I may use 3-4 bags. They are cheap, recyclable and they work good!

My experience with the inexpensive bicycle rain over shoes is that they are tiny and don't fit my size 11 1/2 US dress shoes for my daily commute to the office. When you find a solution for $40 or less, please post. I wear dress shoes and have magnesium platform pedals with titanium shafts, with nice grippy pins on the pedals for my daily commuter single speed.

I wear waterproof socks and let my shoes get wet. I have a space heater under my desk. On rainy days, I spread my gear under there to dry.

The point of overshoes is not to look attractive, it's to keep your undershoes looking attractive. You know how awkward it is when there's a bridesmaid that looks better than the bride.

+2 for 2 plastic grocery bags, although if attractiveness is any kind of criterion, they're not for you.

Over shoes? Hmmm. I use goretex hiking shoes, high and low, or sandals depending on the season.

I wear Showers Pass Club Shoe Covers and find them to be excellent. Today there was rain for all of my 6 mile commute and my shoes stayed completely dry.

those look good. Showers pass is a great brand. I have a pair of their pants. will reply separately to share the shoe covers I tried last fall, which seemed OK, but likely the Showers Pass are better. cool that they are for platform pedals but can be cut for cleated shoes/pedals! I also like that they zip up in the back

Waterproof Motorcycle Bike Shoes Covers ,Reusable Anti-slip Rain Snow Shoes Overshoes Gear Zipped Boot for Men and Women Rain Covers (Black, Sole 12.6inch)
no longer available on Amazon but they fit just fine over my Lake Cycling 2015 Men's MX100 Mountain Bike Shoes (Black/Grey - size 48) for my size 13 feet
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

don't remember what I paid but they were not expensive. weird that Amazon won't show me the price I paid.

here they are with my Showers Pass Transit pants

I see tho that there are several other choices
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0788KY5BG/ref=dp_prsubs_3

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074M83JT5/ref=dp_prsubs_2

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075NYTZLS/ref=dp_prsubs_1

the zip up front on mine make them easier to put on than the old Tingley boots I was using many years ago (see below)

I tried these for a while, they are thick & durable but not hi-tops. they are also heavy. because they are not hi-tops they are ok for wet, muddy, snowy conditions but not downpours
Tingley Men's High Top Work Rubber Stretch Overshoe,Black,3XL(14-15.5 US Mens)
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

if I were a commuter & punishing the covers I would def. go with the Showers Pass units Hatchet recommended. the unit I got last year (pictured at top) seem fine but I have not punished them so can't attest to their waterproofness or durability

these are the Tingley pullup boots I used. they were very durable but so difficult to put on I just left my shoes in them! like I said, a zip up front (or back), seems much smarter, so long as the zipper is indeed waterproof
Tingley Rubber 10-Inch 1400 Rubber Overshoe with Button Boot,Black,XX-Large

The Gore Bike Wear pair that I wear do go on sale, but you just have to be vigilant. I've gotten them for less than $40 and STP currently has at least one Medium set for $22.

That's why I didn't say it was..."I'm looking for something that's primarily waterproof and don't really care about insulation."

I was initially interested in these, but then saw reviews where some people said the material on the bottom was really thin and that they tear easily. I know that comes with the territory to some extent, but the comments made it seem like this was more wear and tear than one might expect. How long have you had them and have you experienced more-than-standard deterioration?

I have not had them long, less than 6 months. I have used them maybe a dozen times, in light to heavy rain. They have held up well so far, but I don’t walk around in them and my pedals don’t have studs or anything.

Another vote for NEOS Villagers. They are absolutely dry, but the best thing is how quickly they go on and off -- like maybe 15 seconds.
