I voted 2, but I'm also about to "give birth" to my third. A build based on the Nashbar X frame...the rims, hubs, and spokes get here next week, and it will be on to my first wheel build.
I have my ATB for short "tennis shoe" rides, and my Fuji commuter rig for normal commuting. The Fuji goes "under the knife" once the new bike is built up. I have plans for that one... Of course, I didn't count the wife's two bike in my answer either. |
I have four, one is for winter, commuting, long distance and for the memories. I am looking for a touring bike and a track bike. . . don't tell my husband.
Gas, the price of a can of beans. |
I have 3.
1) steel roadbike for commuting 2) alum roadbike for weekend riding/climbing 3) alum xc mtb for....well....crosscountry mountainbiking |
I have three "operational" bikes. And four non operational bikes, which I was puttng together to stash in different spots of the country. I've ordered a folder and plan to nix the stashing bikes idea. So by summer I should have only three again after getting rid of them and my beater.
1) Surly Cross Check - Main commuter 2) Frankenbike fixie - I just like to play around with it 3) Bike Friday folder |
Why did we start counting family members' bikes? (...add 3 for my wife and 2 kids).
I have 2: Trek Portland and hybrid rain/snow bike. I figure that's at least 2 too few. Would like: fixed gear (redline 925), cyclocross (volpe), and might even get around to getting a weight wennie bike in a few years. |
4 1/2 operational:
• 76 Team Raleigh • 86 Ross Mt Hood - freighter • 86 Centurion Trac - fix for daily commuting • 00 Trek 5200 - club rides • 07 MUni - All Terrain Unicycle - 'nuff said. Plus 2 WIPs: ~70s Cinelli - currently a frame painting project, converting to fix. ~70s unknown - currently a beater project. |
I voted two, then I realized that the wheel of one of those is in near-failure mode and needs to be trued. I suck at truing so I'll be rolling it down the hill to the LBS next to my other bike tomorrow while riding the latter. Should be fun...
1) 2007 Jamis Aurora (Touring/commuting/recreational) 2) 199? Bridgestone fully rigid mtb/hybrid that's undergone several incarnations but somehow ended up with most of the stock parts back on it, most of which are close to near-catastrophic failure any minute now. I use this bike for commuting when I can't keep my Aurora inside, for running errands, and for kamikaze trail rides :D I'm toying with the idea of tourning the bridgestone into a winter commuter/singlespeed mountain bike. |
I've got 6 road bikes, 3 I regularly use as commuters, 3 as weekend off days.
1. 1986 Raleigh Technium - Scott Tinley Tri-Lite, warranty replaced frame with 91 Tri-Lite Pro alum/steel - fendered commuter. 2. 1986 Vitus 979 - aluminum, favorite commuter. 3. 1987 Panasonic DX-4000, steel, found in the garbage, mint condition.:D next favorite commuter 4. 1993 RacingBik, CF, aka Aegis Aro Svelte. 5. 2004 Litespeed Classic, TI . 6. 2007 Pedal Force - RS, CF, BikeForums group buy. :) |
Five for myself, two for my son, one for daughter.
73 Raleigh 531 steel frame road bike set up as SS/Fixie 04 Aluminum frame road bike set up with aerobars, horn, DIY lights 07 Fuji 853 steel frame touring bike set up as road bike but with fenders/rack 98 Giant Yukon aluminum frame MTB with added front suspension 8? TREK steel frame Multi-track Hybrid set up with fenders for C&O and studded tires for winter |
Specialized Rockhopper, with horns, Slicks, racks and paniers.
Ross Euro-Tour girls bike with a basket and a bell, for trips to the wine shop and grocery Road bike on the way for recreation, touring and going faster. |
glad to know that i'm not too much of a bike nut compared to some people. i've got 4, but am working on building up another.
commuter - 03 fisher tassajara w/rigid fork, slicks. it was once a singlespeed mtn/street bike as well! vintage steel/commuter - 89 tommaso, first road bike..might be hard to let this one go mountain - 05 santa cruz chameleon trials - 04 zoo pitbull coming soon, modern steel - khs flite 800 sometimes i feel weighed down by having so many bikes, though. it's hard to have only one that will do it all.:( |
Ninermore for me: My wife recently asked why I keep so many bikes in the Garage? I wanted to take the 5th but said "because the 4 good ones take up all the space in the boiler room".
1. 84 Specialized Expedition Touring 2. 70s Motobecane Grand Jubile 3. 90 Bianchi Trofeo 4. 2004 Torelli, 5. 80 Colnago CycleCross 6. Titan #1, 7. Titan #2, 8. Titan #3, 9. 95 Terry Solstice 10. 86 Miyata Seven Ten 11. 78 Raleigh Super Course 12. 85 Motobecane Grand Touring, plus parts to make 2 or 3 more. |
3 Bikes.
1) 2002 Cannondale Badboy - 7005 aluminum frame - 26in wheel hybrid - small crank - not built for speed but a strong bike. 2) 2004 Bianchi Vigorelli - Steel 631 frame - mavic wheels - full ultregra - great bike - a real throwback except for the threadless headset. 3) 2006 Surly Crosscheck - Bought the stock build - slowly upgrading - added Brooks saddle, fenders, Surly rack, lights, Open Pro wheels front and back. |
'06 Surly Crosscheck - cross/touring
8? Panasonic DX4000 - fixie 94 Bridgestone RB-1 - roadie 8?Centurion Super Elite - singlespeed 95 Klein Fervor - mtb 89 Bridgestone MB-3 - winter singlespeed with studs 8? Schwinn - groceries/trailer hauler 01 Bike E - recumbent ?? Fuji Cambridge VI - townie Coming soon: 07 IRO - fixie They are all ready to ride though I don't ride the recumbent or the Klein very much. |
And you think this poll is going to convince your wife?
:roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao: |
singlespeed commuter/daily driver
geared commuter (going on the market soon) 90's road bike 80's sport/touring (rideable but needs diff bar/stem to fit well) fixed gear #1 fixed gear #2 Next up is a disc braked road/commuter project. I still have a lot of parts to scrounge though. I will likely consolidate my fixed gear bikeness into one bike in the not-too-distant future too - probably on some kind of a custom path racer-style frame. The road bike needs new paint and a new drivetrain too. It never ends :D |
5 See sig for details...
|
I voted three, since that's what I normally have....saving up for a new frame for #3.
One road (frame finally bit it...once I get off my lazy backside a new frameset and stem will be in the mail. Fast as hell) One mountain (ol reliable...not the fastest or most nimble...but it's a great in-betweener). One folding (high maintenance machine, but fun and VERY nimble) |
I only have one bike. I do not recall ever having more than one at a time. This may change though, since I would like to buy a new ride as a reward for hitting my weight loss goal (not anytime soon though:o ) If and when that happens, my current bike (which is my everything bike) will become my commuter bike.
|
I voted two. I have a 98' Nishiki Pinnacle for light trail and short errand's and my 06' Scattante XRL for my main commute. Of course the fiance' has one, an X-mart bike and my son has a Mongoose BMX bike, but I don't ride those.
|
At this time ten ridible bikes, two set up as commuters/fenders/lights/racks the whole package.two time trial bikes, three mtb bikes, one set up up as a urban bike, three road bikes,,,,,three old ballon tired bikes about to be restored and two old road bikes about to be restored,
|
I'm running 5
2 commuters The Frankenbike-'87 Schwin World that I shortened the frame 2" and built-up more cross/touring The Truck-'94 Raleigh M60, used to tow the kids/dog and foul-weather commuter 2 road '03 Fuji Club 90s Shogun Saumari and for plain fun '02 Stumpjumper FSRxc |
5 1/2 for me:
Trek Portland as a commuter Trek 2300 as a roda bike Schwinn LeTour fixed gear Schwinn Homegrown mountain bike/putz around with the kids/really bad weather commuter Gary Fisher Paragon 29'r mountain bike Cannondale Tandem (the front half) Plus 4 1/2 for the wife and kids: GF Kaitai GF Marlin GF Cosmo GF Tassajara GS Cannondale Tandem (the back half) Plus 3 more operational small kids bikes that I need to clean up and sell. No wonder my garage is so crowded... |
Currently, only two:
1) '06 Marin Fairfax road/hybrid bike (with various shiny upgrades) 2) '84 rusty Nopsa citybike plus a big pile of parts that is likely going to become a tourer/commuter bike somewhere in May. My grandparents have three more old bikes in the attic, but those probably don't count. |
