PEDALS PEDALS! My sanity is hanging on by a small thread

I have come to the conclusion that a good road bike platform pedal for under $50 is just not an option. I just want some simple pedals that will accept toe clips.

Dimension - Every budget Dimension product I have owned was pure junk. I doubt their pedals are any different.

Wellgo - Every review of Wellgo pedals steers me far far away from them.

MKS - Seems to be a great made pedal, but upon receiving them I am under the impression they need to be taken apart, greased, adjusted, etc... as they are hit or miss in this area. Now I have to buy a pedal wrench, grease, etc...

Is there just a nice simple road pedal out there that will accept toe clips and does not need to be rebuilt upon receiving them?

I have been looking at pedals for 1-2 hours a day for almost a week and am losing it man. I'M FREAKING LOSING IT!

Oh yeah, thank you in advance for any and all help.

Look at www.rivbike.com
They have good sensible stuff with honest descriptions of their pedals and fair prices.

MKS pedals should be good to go out of the box and the fact they can be rebuilt is a serious plus.

If you ever come across any Suntour Superbe pedals you should know that they are total and utter crap and that you should send them to me for disposal.

Bikes: 1995 Trek 520 is the current primary bike.

You're thinking too hard. Just go to your local bike shop and tell them you want some metal pedals with toe clips and want them installed. No hassle, no pedal wrench purchase required.

There are lots of options. If your local shop doesn't have something in stock then ordering something should take just a day or four.

Or just buy from velo-orange and buy a pedal wrench:

I have been seeing things like this floating all over the net and I just know I will get the set that is not good to go right out of the box. But I really do like their touring model

Oh man how I wish. We have 2 bike shops in my county and neither shop has really anything in stock, nor can even do something as simple as true a wheel. Not not do it good, not do it at all, like not even attempt. These are basically glorified Wall-Mart bike departments.

Ralph - MKS pedals are very nice and well worth the price... their Sylvan touring pedals are wonderful.

And those Suntour Superbe pedals are among the nicest pedals ever made.

$799

There sre so many things that are legendary that everyone wants. Why don't they just start making them again is my question.

So is this new info on MKS's not coming properly greased just not true? I have seen this reported 3 times.

I was thinking more along the line of the Superbe and Superbe Pro road pedals... the pro pedals will cost a fair bit more.

I often wish that Suntour was making parts like they used to...

Seems to me you could have disassembled, lubed and adjusted a set of pedals in less time. And then you could ride them with confidence. My forum name should tell you that I don't buy high dollar pedals either. But if you're going to go the econo route, you have to be willing to work on it a little more. Either that or just buy them ahead of time any time you see a sale and treat them as disposable items.

My experience with MKS pedals is that even though they feel a little kludgey out of the box, once you put them on the bike and start riding you can't really tell. And they keep spinning forever. They're good pedals.

+1 on the MKS's... I don't consider myself a master mechanic by any means, but these are really easy to adjust and service...Honest. There are several models of varying width/style, they're relatively light and will last a long, long time. Go ahead; take the plunge.

The Suntour Superbe Pro and XC Pro are probably the best regular (non-clipless) pedals ever made IMO. But I've seen them go for crazy ridiculous amounts on eBay. Same is true for high-end Campy pedals.

Bikes: Some silver ones, a red one, a black and orange one, and a few titanium ones

Performance, Wellgo , Pyramid, MKS are just a few. Do a search for "quill pedals".
