Here is a cell phone pic of my Schwinn Le Tour I bought last night and rode in to work today. It is just sitting waiting patiently in the rain for me to get off work. I can't wait to get done with work and ride home. My wife asked if I wanted to ride home in the car with her today because it was raining and I said no. =) The bike shifts great, brakes awesome, rides good even on 27 1 1/8 tires and felt pretty comfy. I'll probably find or purchase a stem with more rise at some point and it will be almost perfect. As it sits its only 25 lbs with rack and fenders which seems pretty light which doesn't matter, but I checked just because its fun. This will be my commuter for at least a few weeks while I fine tune the Peugeot some more, but I might not get to it for a while because my mother-in-law is coming mother's day weekend and the house needs to be cleaned (lots of my bike crap everywhere) and a couple other non-bike related projects done.

I just noticed the Giant in the background is a bike I picked out on Craiglist for a friend of mine who really seems to love it.

Lights: Niterider X2 Dual, 300 lumens. Paid $130ish on Ebay.
Tail Lights: Acclaim Turn Signal Directional Brake Light.(it was $10 so I figured Id give it a shot. If it's garbage then I'll can it.
Main Tail Light: Cat Eye LD610
Rack: Planet Bike.
Panniers: Avenir Metro. Their ok. I couldn't afford better ones at the time.

Oh you have one of the late-80s Le Tours! That is very cool. I'd recommend upgrading to 700c wheels, but clearly you're happy with the setup you have. I have always had 700c on mine, and it feels way livelier than the 27" bikes I have ridden.

I am really happy with the Le Tour. It performed great in the heavier rain on the way home. Its so freaking stable and rides straight as an arrow. I wouldn't mind some wider tires for a bit more comfort, but I'll probably run these for a while. The braking is so good I don't want to mess with going down to the 700c wheels and it seems zippy enough.

I had a matching 1986 Le Tour Men's and Women's pair I sold a couple summers ago. A couple I was good friends with bought them locally at a garage sale for $10 for the pair. They rode them a fair amount in the couple years they owned them and then when they moved they were going to give them to me to sell. I gave them some cash to help them with their move because I knew I would get a decent chunk of money for the bikes that didn't need much of anything. The Le Tours went on as a pair to a younger couple and the cycle of bikes continues. =)

What color is your Le Tour? I just looked up the 1981 and it looked like a handsome bike.

That's gotta be the fattest seat i've ever seen on that Schwinn behind yours.

Sweet. Are those 26" MTB wheels or 650b? They throw off the aesthetics of the bike, IMO, but may have just been put on for the pic.

This is one of my favourite threads... commuters have some of the nicest rigs and are among some of the most serious and dedicated cyclists I know.

A little rain and bad weather will keep a lot of people at home... we like fenders.

Some people won't ride at night... we add lighting systems.

Many put the H in Hard Core.

Here is my 1987 Schwinn Le Tour I bought Sunday night. I have ridden it every day since I purchased it. I had no idea what a gem I was getting. All I did to the bike was adjust the handlebars to fit as good as I could, aired up the tires more and switched out the seat to a Bontrager Race Lux I scored at the thrift store last week for $3. Everything works flawlessly and it rides and performs fantastically. This one is a keeper.

Yes it does have an HLE sticker on the top tube. PH10LE sounds good. Ill have to check out the cyclespeugeot website and see if I can't get some info on the PH10LE. Thanks for taking the time to identify her for me. I appreciate it.

I like pugs and had a couple in the past. I just had one like yours pass through my hands that was too small so I flipped it. I believe yours is a 85.
They came with a sticker that was on the non driveside chain stay next to the crank. If it is there it will have the model, serial number and size.
Rigda Rims and Navar cranks are not anodized and have a high Aluminum content alloy. If you swing buy a auto parts store and pick up some Mothers Mag wheel polish they will shine like chrome.

Here's mine. a 2001 Trek 7300 Multitrack. Fitted with 700x47 tires, flat bars, rack w/bag and panniers. Soaks up the city streets nicely and still at a nice clip. Have been riding it for a year, and bike commuting just started this week (thanks to an office move).

Finally getting back to commuting by bike. The last time I did it was in 2008, 34-mi r/t on a Kona Dew. Now it's 20-mi r/t on my new-to-me Bianchi San Jose 7-spd IGH. I have Schwalbe Marathons coming in to replace the Conti Ultra Sports on there now. Aside from that, everything rides great. Now for your viewing pleasure:
