Thanks! I'm really lucky to have such great co-workers/supervisors at the place where I work. Upper administration can be clueless, and the patients can be obnoxious, but the people I work with make it worthwhile.
When she gave it to me, I was in the process of saving up for a Trek Navigator 2.0, which would have been adequate for errands/commuting, but it wouldn't have been able to take me on all of the adventures the Tempo has carried me on, and I likely wouldn't have been bitten by the cycling bug as hard. Also I got to spend the $400+ I'd saved on fun accessories. |

http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=249327A year and a half ago it looked like i would not be able to ride again due to illness. In fact it was looking like i might not have a lota time left. Sold all my bikes.
Well things have changed and im back at it. However im retired now so i dont commute anymore but love this forum so will post here. My new ride. Marin Muirwoods 29 er. Love the steel ride and fat tires. Will probably change out the cheap crank and pedals but other than that i love it. Feels good to be on 2 wheels again. I shortened up the wide bars. I have fenders for it but i can now afford the luxury of being a fairweather rider so leave i them off mostly. Surprisingly the saddle works for me real well so Brooks not needed for now. Ive put a new but classic set of quality friction shifters(Silvers from Rivendell) on it,just my preference. Im allowed, im a old guy from the old school. Added Contac Ergon bar ends by Giant. Awesome, feels very much like being on the hoods, they are very ergonomic. Jandd seat bag. Holds enough(huge actually) for day rides or even very lite credit card touring if need be. I modified the straps it came with so it doesnt wiggle around much at all and now they dont extend down to chain stays as Jandd would have you do which i found to be too cumbersome and in the way. I have lites in bag for when needed. And of course the needed bottle cages and bell. Sorry pic coulda been larger. Its been awhile since i posted a pic. Click on it for bigger pic. |

Here's my commuter bike...and my road bike...and my errand bike. Hell, it's my only bike, but I can't imagine how I got along without her. 1987 Schwinn Tempo. My boss found it in her garage, and gave it to me. It already had the back rack on it, I added the fenders and platform/clipless pedals. There's a headlight up front (I work nights, so for much of the year I'm commuting in darkness) and a red blinky mounted to the rack in back. The bag is a Biria shopper pannier, the seat bag is a cheap Bell I found at the local BBS. I have two panniers, but so far have only used one for commuting. I'd planned to use them for shopping, but seeing as how I live across the street from the grocery store, I haven't had occasion to bother with my bike when foraging. |
Well thanks guys. Just when ya think its about over things change. You never know. Tests show I still have the problem but its backed off for some reason and im feeling good.
I may have sold my bikes to soon but i wanted to make it easier for my adult kids. Anyway no crying over spilt milk although i miss my LHT. Didnt buy another one this time as there about $1600 up here. The Marin is a 22" and actually has a longer wheelbase than LHT and rides as good or better for less coin. But thanks guys |

Nice! Does she "commute" to school with it?
On another note, this forum's pagination hasn't been broken in weeks -- anyone else notice? What's up with that? :-) It's a great bike though. |

Great bike! Do you find that your wrists hurt much after 5+miles? The reason I ask is you can plainly see in the picture how downward that seat is tilted. It's not enough to make you not want to ride, but that is definitely enough to make you notice the weight on your hands rather than your seat bone.

Ha ha, I was just noticing that too! I recently took the seat off to do some detailed cleaning, and I must have put it back on tilted! My commute is only 3.2 miles, so I never noticed it then, but my shoulders have been a little sore after this week of commuting (I'm 6 on/8 off) so that's probably it. I'll fix it before taking her out on longer rides on my days off.

Gorgeous! There's something about brown bar tape/saddles on old 10 speeds that does something for me.

http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=249704http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=249705http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=249706 I'm riding this about once a week into Memphis, TN, 7 miles each way. I have to dress up a little for work, but there's a space where I can change. Nice bike, not a lot of reviews out there. I switched out the Brooks Swift that came with it for a pre aged Brooks B17. Tires are narrow, 25mm, can't go bigger with the narrow fenders. I changed out the front handlebar stem, it was too long for me. This is a 62 cm size, the biggest they make. I'm 6'-3", it fits fairly well, but I could probably handle a 64 cm. Not many around for me to try unfortunately. I had to order this bike without seeing it, since the bike shops didn't want to take a chance on a tall frame they couldn't sell. Fenders rattle some, and take some adjustment sometimes because they are so narrow. Overall a nice bike, I get lots of compliments. The dog is a stray i picked up, he was a small puppy, half starved, now a thriving bundle of energy, teeth and mischief. Named Jethro. |

This bike we just built up for my friend about 3 hours ago out of parts consisting of an old nishiki, and old kia road bike, and parts of of my many various projects. Not the prettiest, but not the ugliest and totally usable.

Nah, were are a bit older than school. She's got a car, but it's a town you can ride EVERYWHERE in and she already has a hybrid w/ disc brakes and a mountain bike, so she didn't need another cruiser/flatbar bike. It happens to be her favorite frame and we had all the pieces we needed. AlsoIt is a relatively smooth ride. I would upgrade the Brake Levers and Brakes which I think is first on her list of things to do. Also, she wants to lengthen the bike a bit as we'll probably be doing a quill stem adapter with a 110 stem on a 12 or 16 degree rise. This should help her position a little better and not have to deal with chest issues so much.
It's a great bike though. My post was actually a response to one by HardyWeinberghttp://www.bikeforums.net/star.gif My 7 yr old has moved up to her big brother's 20" bike. Guess I really should have used "Reply with Quote" |
