My New Commuter! It is a 2000 Magna with like no miles on it when I picked it up on Friday night. Saturday I spend time adjusting the bars, seat, and brakes. The fenders from a Schwinn are going to be fitted, painted, and added..... along with a back rack.

Ah finally, someone else with a Torker! I've been loving my for almost 2 years now. It's a burly, reliable, all weather, commuter no?

took off the trunk bag now that the commute is really walking distance, a friend made the frame bag for me to try out as a prototype.

My '83 Marinoni frame resto project has seen a number of variations since I first completed the "porteur" build last Winter. Its current form is much better. Here it s sporting its commuting guise, including an Alfine 8 in lieu of the Sturmey S3X I had originally installed. Since this pic was taken, I've shellac'ed and twined the bars, and fully housed the shifter cable to the hub armature.

Yeah it is the Gravity Zilla. It rides nice on the road, smoother than my roadbike and quicker than my mountain bike. I can feel the extra resistance of the semi-knobby tires compared to my road bike but that is to be expected. I have taken it on some single track and it handles very good! I love the fit, it feels like you are sitting in the bike instead of on it! Overall I would say it is exactly as described on BD...sort of a jack of all trades-master of none type bike!

Ok after much intrernal struggle, research, and hawking Craigslist for almost 2 months I ended up pulling the trigger on a 2011 Kona Paddy Wagon. I ended up getting it for $350 which I thought was a pretty decent deal for a new bike. Its going to be my commuter during the warmer months. What say you BF, any of you have any experience with this bike, words of wisdom, things I need to consider, etc?

Why only during warm months? That's a great foul-weather bike... if you can get the fenders worked out. |
Just got new wheels for the commuter/touring bike. Fuzion M1's. Sorry about the terrible picture as my cameras battery died right as I was going to take a picture. So i had to use my cell phone.

My new commuter! I also picked up a child trailer and turned it into a flatbed. This is the trailers first haul.

That was on my short list when I was shopping for a new commuter - I decided I didn't like the track ends because I wanted full fenders... doable but more hassle.

I bought it because specifically because I thought it had eyelets for both so I could mount fenders and a rack from the seat post for light duty Edit: I found these pictures that show fenders on a Paddy Wagon http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4031/...9e4cb883_b.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4046/...3abff149_b.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4043/...2901c6e2_b.jpg |

Beautiful bike. How was the whole process of switching out the bars? I'd love to do something similar with my old MTB commuter, but I've been told that it wouldn't be worth the effort and cost (replacing the brake levers and shifters, etc). Or were you somehow able to keep your flatbar fittings?

CJames0587,
Those are full fenders to me. |
I finished converting my flat-bar hybrid to a more comfortable road bike, i will eventually swap out the stem.

I've seen pictures of full fenders, specifically SKS p35 fenders on several Paddy Wagons. Erm, aren't those full fenders..I could be wrong?

Not particuarly stylish, even by my own low standard for stylishness, but this one gets the job done in the winter, with studded tires that keep me upright on ice.

My entry-level road bike converted commuter (2003 Fuji Finest). Recently upgraded with SPD shoes/clips and 23c Gatorskins in the hopes I can put some MKII fenders on it. Still dreaming of something more versatile, along the lines of a Bianchi Volpe/Surly Pacer type. Maybe one day...

I recently converted my hybrid flat-bar bike to a utility/grocery-getter/commuter bike with road bars and shifters.

Added somethings to the new Magna commuter this week; horn, painted and installed back rear rack and pannier bags, front and rear lights and new water bottle with mount. I also ordered the rail handle bar mount for the Garmin Vista I used in the Military and a 16 oz Stanley thermos for hot joe. I'm planning to order new panniers that are not as long/deep....I'm getting heal hits on the ones from the wifes bicycle.

Thanks and I'll put pics up when I get it tomorrow. |
P-clips actually work pretty well for light loads. I used them on my last bike. Do a search and you should find some good info. You could also use a seat post rack, but IMO those look out of place on a road bike. Think ahead about how your going to mount whatever is your going to mount to your rack. I may swap mine out of a topeak rack so I can use one of their nifty quick release bags for the same purpose. Plenty of people are happy with just a backpack and a bungee. You'll probably have heel-strike issues with a pannier setup on that bike (I do on my Fuji) so maybe want to go for a sweep back style rack if you decide to go with Panniers to increase your chances. For myself, I'm looking at the axiom journey (http://www.axiomgear.com/products/ge...-rear/journey/) and the topeak supertourist (http://www.topeak.com/products/Racks...larRack_w_o_sp)

I just finished reconfiguring my '89 Rockhopper with Soma Sparrow bars and 26x1.25" Panaracer T-Servs. I originally planned to use the Sparrow bars in "dropped" mode, but the fit just wasn't going to work without a ridiculously tall quill. It seems this bike wanted to be reborn as more of a Dutch bike wannabe than a hipster wannabe.

Here's my Miyata Scarf Windy, a 3 wheeler that's an attraction to female cyclist.

I first started commuting on this:
http://velospace.org/files/paxton_triumph.jpg 1972 Triumph Roadster. Surmey Archer 3 speed. Then, I came across this Miyata, and transferred the rack & saddle to it: http://velospace.org/files/paxtonmiyatavs.JPG 1990 Miyata 721A But then I gave the bike to my son (but kept the rack and sold the saddle). Then my son found this, so I fixed it up, put the rack on it and now I commute on this bad boy: http://velospace.org/files/paxton1990trek2.JPG 1990 Trek 790 Multi Track |
Oh, and in between the Triumph & the Miayta was this oddball hybrid that I created:
