Here's my new commuter! 2015 Trek Crossrip LTD.

I've opted for the completely original... never before attempted... bicycle in front of the garage pictures. Well, it's what was available yesterday, but hopefully I can take some more scenic pictures soon.

I draw the line at the racks and bags, I'll be going the Topeak rack/basket system soon. Don't hold me to it though.

Not to mention, leather saddles, wider tires, and (at least on the raleigh) a frame big enough that you only need "a fistful of seatpost". Good job!

Mr IGH, that's not an IGH! I like the bike, it looks like it can do pretty much everything. I'm much the same with my crosscheck with 700x50 marathon supremes; I call it my N=1 bike. (Except I do have a N=2 hardtail for when I want to ride rougher trails).

Ooh, blingy! Those hubs really sparkle -- I was wondering whether they were stock, and then I noticed all the other matching color accents. I wonder if anybody makes housing that color, it's kind of an odd rusty orange. Million-dollar-idea! On-demand color-matched housing manufacturer! Or probably more like an idea that would make me bankrupt...

Very nice - I've seen lots of Crossrips lately... Trek nailed it with this one.

Remove the 54cm sticker though... it's like a dork disk on your seat tube.

It's a 58... but your point is well taken and I agree. Consider it removed.

My new commuter - 2014 Trek Crossrip. Found it at a large enough discount that I was able to pick up the rack, fenders, cages, and seatbag for less than the bike's original sticker price :) Hope to start commuting on it within the next couple weeks

Those frame size stickers just peel right off and leave no residue - nothing like a decal or LBS sticker.

Soma Saga Disc 57.5mm with Woodchipper bars, Shimano 9 speed bar cons and Cane Creek brake levers. PlanetBike 45mm fenders, Thudbuster and Topeak rack/trunk bag:

Shimano dyno hub, BB7 road calipers, DT 2.0, SunRingle Helix TR27 rims (520gms) with Pasela PT 38mm @ 60psi (mountain bike wheels). Rides like a cream puff over all the bumps. Phillips headlamp with matching taillight:

Shimano 756 rear hub and custom 9 speed cassette, disc brake goodness:

Tiagra triple with PD-324 pedals:

I have ~200 miles on it, 50 of them gravel grinding, the rest urban errands/commuting. I really like this bike. Handles great and when I hit the crappy parts of the gravel roads it gives me confidence that it's going to hold up.

Have you ridden it unloaded? I'm a bit leery of the "- Rear load bias touring geometry (rides best with a load in the rear or with a load in the front AND the rear)" on the website.

But very well put together, I'm jealous.

Thanks for the kind words! I really love this bike. I have over 200 miles on it so far, all unloaded except for ~5lbs of rack, trunk bag and stuff. I have ridden it twice with my bike club on gravel grinds, ~25mile rides. I find the handling to be very stable, I can ride it no-hands over bumps and holes on dirt roads effortlessly (while taking off a jacket). I never noticed that statement on the Soma website but the geometry of the Saga is pretty much the same as the Surly Trucker (and Disc Trucker) and the Salsa Vaya. I picked the Saga over the Vaya due to cost and I picked the Saga over the Trucker because I wanted to run a suspension seatpost (requiring a sloped top tube to get the stack I wanted).

LOL, no IGH, I know! I really love IGHs but since I left Chicago and moved to Colorado things have changed for me, cycling terrain-wise. I'm even getting ready to sell my IGH commuter. Upright bars and lack of gear range really limited my usage of that bike for my new life/lifestyle. Almost went Surly again (Disc Trucker, would have been my fourth) but I wanted a sloping top tube and it was time trying something new. I did give up the super-wide tyres but that wasn't something I needed. I'm down to 4 bikes, Saga, Moonlander, 29er dual suspension and lightweight roadie bike. Not bad considering a year ago I had ~15 bikes.

Wow, that's impressive! I have only two: crosscheck for almost everything, GT Backwoods hardtail for rougher trails. Three if you count the C&V Falcon I got from my dad, which is hanging from the ceiling and will never come down, because it's too small for me, and it's halfway parted out. I have the idea of buying a fixie wheel for it just to try it out, but I know I'll never get a round tuit. I keep checking in stores, and the only tuits I can find are square. But my whole stable is 11 bikes in the garage, because the wife and 3 kids. Once they all get out of the house maybe I can expand a little.

Not sure if I've posted this shot (forgive me if I already have), but this is my trusted Jamis Commuter 1 CmX.

Nice! I really like the color combination here too.

AlTheKiller 03-10-15 10:49 PM

I've ridden drop bar bikes with rear racks for years of commuting. Picked up, and modified, this KHS recently and have been having a blast. Go a bit slower, worry about scratches and theft less, but I didn't put a rack on until yesterday. My first front rack.
Trying not to scare the deer.

Ha, the seatpost rule, I actually thought of that when I tried it out! I was actually hoping for too tall of a frame but thought twice. 64cm is just right for me.
I had the Kona for years, much too small of a frame; “two fistfuls of seatpost”! It’s more like a large bmx bike than anything else. Kona could’ve gone bigger than 20” for their biggest size, but, then again, it was the cramped-out ‘90s!
I’ll never revert to skinny tires for anything :ride:

Nice! I have a Basso about the same vintage and have commuted on it for years. I still get crap from some of the LBS's about commuting on a vintage Italian bike - they say it's too nice. I don't get it - it's a bike, I ride it, who cares if it's to work and back! Love those old Selle saddles

This. I ride my bikes. I have fun. Nobody has given me crap about riding this bike even though the roads around here are nasty with all the melting snow and gravel all over.

Love it. Do you cruise through the city humming bossa nova? I would, and I've only spent 4 days in Rio.

farah 03-13-15 07:32 PM

obrigado. vamos ver se o seu português está bom! hahahahaha. eu não gosto de bossa mas entendo a paixão dos estrangeiros por ela. o que achou do rio ?
