Here's mine. 2002 Schwinn Mesa GSD. Changed the front fork out for a Nashbar steel suspension corrected fork, Specialized Armadillo 26x1.95 semi slicks, put some Nashbar trekking bars and the goodies for riding at night. Seems to work pretty good so far.

That setup is awesome, definitely the most practical use of a chopper I've seen! How fast can you go? Is the singlespeed-ness a problem?

demo9 10-16-06 11:43 PM

I really like the pics BAH the rack looks good, are the photos of you during a race on bikerubbish?

BikeManDan 10-17-06 12:13 AM

I always wondered to myself how would one transport a bike with another bike

Well I guess that solves it

Holy cow, I love that chopper and the setup! Towing a bike and a skateboard! You're well prepared.

That looks like a great commuter with fenders and the Schmidt generator.

How did you mount the Nexus twist shifter on the drops?

fender1 10-20-06 08:05 AM

I used the hubub bar end adapter from Harris Cyclery to mount he shifter on the drops. I works very well.

Alloy Addict 10-20-06 07:52 PM

fender1,
That bike is sweet & mean, hot & cool, and wicked & righteous.:)

here's mine. it's a Rescued Trek 800. it's got the original Shimano Exage shiftig components and brakes, and biopace chainrings. I got the rear rack used and the front rack is an NOS Vetta $5 each from the LBS, the rear crate originally belonged to the 7-UP/Dr. Pepper Bottling company. (the one that holds 3 8 pks of 20 oz bottles.) the saddle is from a Schwinn sidewinder, the front fender is from a 1952 Schwinn Traveler 3 speed. I don't have the rear fender mounted yet because i need to make a bracket for it. I have a CatEye opticube 800+ candlepower headlight and a blackburn Mars 2.0 blinkie. as a backup I have the lightset from the '52 schwinn as well. my rear panniers are not mounted right now, but the front one is actually a Rhode Gear "diaper bag" that is supposed to mount on a child seat. it works great to hold tools and stuff I may need to access while riding. I ran out of reflective tape before I could go to crazy with it, but I think I will be seen. I carry/attatch various other things depending on where I'm going. this is my all purpose bike and it handles well. the pic shows it with a 25lb Pumpkin on the back, but I've had 2 bikes strapped on there before. sometimes I see what I can carry just for the sake of saying hey, I can do it. the other pic is when I got it before I had a chance to fix/geek it up

Gave up trying to make the '99 Gary Fisher Tassajara a commuter/beater (frameset is available for trade - looking for a nice 531/Columbus SL road machine), and traded a local cyclist some parts for an ugly Benotto 800-series frameset to cobble together into a decent all-around machine. Rides excellent, although it takes a little getting used the combination of North Road handlebars and rather twitchy racing geometry. Weighs 30 pounds - not bad, considering.

Few things still have to be fine-tuned on it (particularly, mounting a pair of spare Conti 1000s I have on it), but it's perfectly ridable as-is. Could use an Airzound for it though :D

dwoloz, i love that reflective tape because it looks like lightsabers or something. i'm hearing the sound effects in my head right now.

First of 2 other people's bikes at the farmer's market this weekend.

On Saturday, a Pedersen, that I'd never heard of before.

I still can't really picture how it works. It had one chainring, maybe 32T?

On Sunday, parked in the same spot, a Rivendell Atlantis. I assume the front wheel was stolen but maybe the owner took it with him/her while shopping. If stolen, not a recommendation for those mini U locks I guess.

My red Gary Fisher mtn bike is in both pix, I think you can only see the reflective sidewall in this one.

Here's my "new" commuter, I took an old Sears and removed the brakes/levers, etc, and put on a rear wheel from a Columbia which is equipped with a Sturmey Archer 3 speed/coaster brake. It's perfect for my extremely short commute - and looks bad enough that no crack heads will steal it.

That the wheel was stolen (if indeed it was) has nothing to do with how good a lock that mini U is. That's a terrible locking job. I would have expected a Riv owner to know better. That's a real shame.
