Not so much in the city. Although it's easy to pick out the bikes people have ridden on the beach.

Thanks for your kind words. In a better photo you'd be able to see all the chipped paint, the missing inner chain ring and other defects. It looks good from a distance. The closer you get, the worse it looks.

It gets a little more respect in the commuter forum than the road forum.

New commuter shaves off time

Today was my first day to commute on the new bike; 05 Redline Conquest. I've been riding the 16 miles on a 1994 Mongoose mountain bike. I had no idea how hard I was working until this morning. The fenders keep things nice and clean too. Now I just need a headlight and some panniers...though the free rubbermade bin has a lot going for it. This is a big improvment over the milk crate I had on the MTB; waterproof, semi-aerodynamic, rigid to protect my lunch etc. Maybe I'll wait a while yet on those panniers. Thanks to all on this forum who have inspired me to begin commuting earlier this year! For those who are wondering, avg speed on the MTB with nobbies was always around 14 mph and with the cyclocross gearing and 700x25 road tires my average today was 17.5. When these tires wear out I will still probably go to at least a 28 for those times I need to abandon the pavement in a hurry.

That is a sweet Peugeot.

Here is my new commuter, since April:

Changed out the crank to a Campy Veloce, go back and forth between the road tires and cross tires, and went with a 48T chainring.

I have a 10 mile commute and it rarely rains here so I ride my road bike in to work a couple times a week.

A guy I work with commutes at least 4 days a week on his race bike, a Cannondale Six13. He's a CAT1 racer though so all he owns are race bikes.

Here's my commuter bike:

Wow that looks a lot like my bike! Did the 48T front chainring fit with the stock BB? Or is that a stupid question since you put Campy cranks on that would obviously need a Campy BB. What I should ask is what is the BB spindle length? I noticed the stock 42 front ring is very close to the stay...

This is my ride. It's old, heavy, and indestructible (like its owner.) I cruise this monster 15 miles daily for my commute, plus any extra mileage that I throw in from running errands around the neighbourhood.

This is the troll doll that I attribute all my good biking mojo to. It's been there for 15 years, through all sorts of trail wipe-outs that should have killed me, and few right-hooks and one head-on collision which I managed to walk away from all of them.

Nice machine and same vintage as mine. I threw racks, paniers and fenders on my silver Mongoose Sycamore (sans suspension fork) and a set of IRC Advantagepro street tires. For night riding, I have a set of rear red blinking lights and a 10W 12 volt BLT helmet light. It looks ridiculous during the day, but I get an awful lot of respect at night with it.

Chainring fits fine. When I bought the bike I got them to throw in a 48T chainring. The one they gave me was so out of round the chain was loose at one point in a revolution and too loose in another. The bottom bracket is stock and I think it is 118mm, I though I might have to switch it out with the Campy but everything wen together OK. The 48t has to go on the outside of the chainring arms to clear the frame. Throws the chainline off a wee bit but not as much as a derailleur.

Look familiar, Tango6? I liked your idea of the Brooks saddle, but thought the Selle An-Atomica fit the Bianchi’s Italian heritage a little better. Plus it will keep the wife happier, longer…

It's a garage door .

Yeah, they do all kinda look the same, don't they? And a lot of people have 'em.

I'm going to post pictures of my new LHT commuter soon as I can borrow a camera from some poor schmoe. Rest assured, it is sweet.

It's actually required for posting bicycle pictures. You should have one drive-side shot against a garage door, several close-ups of miscellaneous components, a picture or two of the bike posed against a local scenic background, and optionally a picture of a dog looking at the bike against the garage door.

Here are my commuters:

1. Surly Pacer - I just finished putting the flat bar setup on this bike and I'm really happy with it.

2. Bianchi Pista - Completely stock except for the headset and the front brake.

Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Bikes: Urbanite custom

I have posted my bike before, but I added a new saddle and pedals since then.

Chocula, that bike is fantastic.

My pr-r-r-recious!

A mid-90's (I guess) Miyata Elevation 200 (entry-level bike, decent steel frame, components in the Tourney-Altus range) with rigid fork. Bought used last summer. Upgraded with Body Geometry seat and Schwalbe Marathon slicks (I paid more for those tires than for the bike itself!) The name of this venerable beast is Blackberry T.A.R.T. (Toronto-Area Rapid Transportation ). Blacky for short. Very practical and dependable beater.

What kind of handlebars do you got on there? I'd like to try a semi-bent setup like that.

Ooh I can finally post a picture in this thread! This was my first decent bike, a 1993 Mongoose Rockadile. I just got it put together properly yesterday, and I plan to start riding it to work this week. I've been riding it all over town and so far it seems perfect for the task. It's quite heavy but it feels extremely solid.
