That's a good point, PatrickGSR94. You might as well make the easy test before the hard test.

To be fair, when I put a stem riser on my wife's bike, I had to do the same thing for the same reason - replace all cables. But if he just replaces the stem with one with a steeper angle, or otherwise doesn't raise it too terribly much, the cables should be okay.
|
Picking up the bike this evening after work. LBS said they think they can go as high as a 24* without swapping cables. I'll report back later. Thanks for all the tips guys!

Updated the district a bit

Picked up a Trek 2nd district a couple months ago, hated the color so my painter buddy painted it for me :thumb: ordered some new parts turned out pretty nice I think... Still will change the crankset and brakes to black in the future I think. Will see how it rides this weekend I hope. This will be my grocery bike so I will pick up a set of Ortleib pannier's soon :thumb:

That's super cool! Does it fit in a regular bike lane?

My latest commuter. Not fast, but fun and provides protection from the weather and loads of luggage space. How is it to get it up to speed, maintain speed, and steer? |

Performance Bike here has about three of those on the floor. At least I think they're the same.

"Weighs 34km"? Is that what's meant by a long weight?

Soma Double Cross
2 Attachment(s)
I have always been inspired by the builds shown in this sub-forum. Thanks to all who have shared. Here is the current rendition of my Soma Double Cross. Just recently upgraded to a handbuilt wheelset (H+ Son Archetype with Dura Ace 9000 hubs and Sapim spokes, by Velomine) for durability. My previous wheelset, American Classic Victory 30, was too worn out and aged, so a timely replacement. At the time the picture was taken, I was testing out a leather saddle (for a few long rides!), but decided it was not for me. Couldn't wait for the saddle to break-in against the painful butt. So I'm now back to the Selle SMP TRK. Another change (not considered an upgraded) is the Campagnolo FD, RD and ergopower shifter-brake levers, from the Dura Ace groupset. As this is the only bike I own, it is utilized for commuting (with backpack) and group riding on the roads over the weekends. And it was only yesterday did I test on a real gravel road. It was fun and such a blast, testifying to the bike's capability for cyclocross riding. Next upgrades would be a stiffer crankset (Rotor 3D30 on the way), and maybe a carbon fork in the not-so-near future. Cheers!

Finally got my commuter sorted to suit my needs. V comfy and pretty speedy too. Also fitted brighter Moon lights, SKS mudguards and rear GatorSkin tyre now the weathers getting more autumnal.

lotta nice bike pron posted today!
MulliganAl, your Hillborne is gorgeous (as are all rivbikes) Hardy, is that a travelerscheck? I've got a crosscheck in the same color. Those fenders create the illusion that there's a bike-shaped hole in that ivy that you happened upon and your bike just fit perfectly! bendoza, that Trek is classic (and the rack looks cool too). Also love your GT, it looks almost identical to my GT Backwoods (except a lot cleaner!) |

By the way my mom's commuting bicycle (or should I say quadracycle?). It's a 20" wheeler BMX, but because she's old and has a balancing problem, I put a 16" customized training wheel/balancer on her bike.

That quad is awesome! So cool that you are able to help your mom stay mobile and active!
Yep, my Backwoods is just for trails, I ride my CrossCheck for everything else (and even that sometimes on light trails). Shopping for a 29er to be my trail bike though... |
