Got a flat right out of the barracks from some ass who felt the need to throw a beer bottle in the streets. didnt see it til the last second, I was about a 1/4 way down when i started hearing deflation, walked the bike the rest of the way. I had to ride it to the bike shop as walking just too waay to long for my break so I pretty much kept the handle bars straight w/ my fingers to keep weight off of it and went slowly. at the bike shop, found I was wrong about my tire diameter.. reset my speedo accordingly, and Turns out I ride faster then I thought

My second day commuting to work! About 60 and overcast. I can take MUP almost all the way. Left a little late so when I hit street I just starting grinding as fast as I could (not very, but hey, it's something). When I get to work I totally feel awake now. It is really nice.

First ever commute by bike this morning. I figured it'd be worth doing and gives me another excuse to ride the Raleigh. 16.8 miles in, 58 minutes to get to work and felt pretty good - 34 and 27 milers over the weekend. Normally a 25-30 minute drive(14.5 miles), but gotta take a longer route with the bike. I think I could get used to this commuting by bike thing. Great way to start my day
Now I just gotta get home

Flat on the way in today, blah! Rear again, even though I put one of those tire liner thingies in after my last rear flat. Oh well, I'm getting Indy-Pit-Crew fast at swapping tubes these days. I had a bit of a load on my pannier, and those CO2 cyclinders don't give full pressure, so I was a little squishy back there for the rest of the ride.
But regardless, great morning and great ride.

I rode the fixed gear to work this morning. I was in a tinkering mood this weekend so I threw a big ring on my FG. I went from 43x14 to a 52x16. It looks massive, but it's funny that when you enter the numbers into Sheldon's gear calculator, you find that it's only a difference of 5 gear inches or so. Great for when there's no wind. Except when there is....

Alright! Another Marathon owner. I put in 46 miles on my Marathon on Saturday. I used it as my primary commuter for about 3 months at the beginning of the year. I've since adjusted my fleet and took the rack off the Marathon so now I just ride it on the weekends. (My primary commuter is my '94 Nishiki hybrid, plus I have a '66 Raleigh 3-speed and a '73 Schwinn Varsity with baskets.)

Caloso, thanks! Felt good to just let the car sit there in the driveway this morning

My first post to this thread... A (fortunately) unremarkable but gorgeous ride in today (high 50s). As a bonus, I had a tailwind both to and from work

You bet; love that Marathon. It's my only road bike, but I can live with adding/removing rack as needed. Hope to get something new soon for non-commuting rides and make this Marathon more of just a commuter/lazy Sunday ride bike. After I get home from work today, that'll be 1200 miles for the year on the old girl

Almost dumpster-bound; my manager mentioned they were about to throw it out. I was looking for a road bike to give road riding a shot so it worked out perfectly. Since then it's been a bit modernized and has treated me really well. You may have seen this pic on here before.

Ride in not good but I did manage to bike home...was worried my wrist/shoulder wouldn't hold up. Typing this on crackberry smarts though. Hopefully I will be able to ride my road bike from the shop to my bf's place and wash it there.

I have great rain gear. Too bad I left it at home. Had to ride home in a downpour. I was drenched to the skin by the time I got home.

Not so good. A beautiful morning 12deg C and I was full of energy so gunned it down the dirt path to get my morning adrenalin fix.
Took the steps a bit fast and pannier detached itself from the rack ending up with the internal card/ plastic liner getting mangled in my spokes. Quick adjust and a dozen swear words later I continued.
Reached the fast, heavy traffic stretch and again the pannier went into the spokes - this time a large size 8 Allen key pokes through making a thunderous ratatatatat in my rear. Hopped onto the grassy verge and the damage to the pannier is expensive looking. sigh. Time for a new one. Didnt have time to examine the spokes too closely but I still managed to beat the magic 30 minute mark.
Time to troll the panniers forums.

Took a sleeping pill last night, still woozy (I'm very sensitive to medication of any kind), don't remember much about this morning's ride in. I was on the bike......there was a guy ahead of me........some cars............I shifted gears a couple of times............................

1/3 the way I was surprised by drizzle. it didn't even show up on the morning radar image. guess I should stop watching old broadcast TV instructions about converter boxes and watch the new TV with actual NEWS & WEATHER!
I believe my new rear wheel needs a visit to my LBS for a tuneup!

LOL, I wish ... I didn't stop right away but eventually did to apply plastic to my rack bag. last summer I ruined a perfectly good cell phone by riding in the rain.

Fast this morning. A cute young woman in full-kit on a roadbike passed me heading the other way and looked me up & down. Probably admiring my heavy MTB. Or my legs.
I had just left the point where most people turn around, so I figured she might try to turn and reel me in. But I never saw her again.
Yesterday was my fastest ride home to date. Bike computer average 17.6MPH, including slow-downs for signs, lights, pedestrians, etc. I think cleaning my bike makes it go faster.

I have a zip lock freezer bag and a plastic grocery bag stashed in my bag all the time for that reason.

Pretty awesome, felt powerful again, with no breakfast. I'm beginining to think it's just the lack of wind. Also I've started taking a change of clothes to work now so I dont mind sweating while on the ballistic run.
Yesterday on the way home, I was about 7 minutes ride away when we got thunder, lightning, and a downpour that wouldn't look out of place in Noah's Ark chapter. So I stopped at the bus shelter and pondered what to do as I saw other cyclists go past. So I done what came naturally, took out my umbrella from the rucksack, bike in the other hand, and walked home.
I shouldn't have bothered since I was soaked (read: not damp, but soaked) anyway. Even my hair was wet (how'd that happen.. I have no idea).
