Below 50f this morning, but forecast for 80's this afternoon. A bit late so no traffic. I don't expect this weather to last much longer. An entire week of perfect fall weather. As a catholic I'm already feeling guilty, and ready to be punished.

Another beautiful fall morning in the nation's capital. Low 50s, a little fog in my neighborhood when I first left home and quite a few commuters out and about. Racktrunk full of today's items and suit neatly rolled up in panniers on the front rack for dressing up a little more for tomorrow morning's work event. Yes, I have to work tomorrow, but it's only in the AM and at least it means another commute!
Realized this morning I passed the 2500 mile mark this year so far in commuter miles. I'll be closing in on 3500 miles commuted by the end of 2010 (my first full calendar year of bike commuting).

Today was supposed to complete another 5 for 5 week for me, but alas! life gets in the way sometimes. A sick kid, doing laundry at 1:00 am, barely sleeping, making a drug store run first thing this morning...bah! it was easier just to drive. And it's such a beautiful day. Next commute will be Tuesday.
Happy Thanksgiving to my fellow Canadians!

For some reason the cooler weather is kicking my butt this year. It was in the high 50s and I needed a windbreaker. Earlier in the week it was low 50s and I needed my legs covered. Last year I was still running shorts and t-shirts under these conditions.
I'm gettin' old I guess.

Beautiful morning, mid 50s and sunny. There was a lot of car traffic in Brooklyn and nary a bike in sight. I guess the cycle commuting season is mostly over. I'll continue as long as the nice weather holds out, but then I'm done. Days are getting shorter too and I don't like riding in the dark, even with lights.

I had a hard time getting going yesterday morning too, but felt fine on the way home when it was much warmer. I haven't been on my bike all that much the last few weeks, this after having 4 consecutive 100 mile weekends and feeling much stronger.

Great ride in this morning, despite the fact that I had to wake up at 6 AM on a Saturday not of my own volition.
Managed to actaully see the sun rise on the Potomac as I rode in to work. More accurately, I managed to watch the sun rise three times on the Potomac as I rode in (thanks to hills/changing horizon on the other side of the river, I saw it pop over the horizon on three separate occasions). Temp in the low 50s. Very nice.
My short day at work is over, and I'm about to bike over to meet up with my wife and a friend for an afternoon cookout and some bocce ball, and then hopefully a little more riding...

Nice morning 52f, my knee wasn't bothering me this morning either. I really like fall weather here in boise so nice to have highs in the mid 60's.

Mid 50s, fog, and dead quiet. I couldn't tell if my ears were numb, I couldn't hear anything, or it was just that silent this morning. That was, at least, until the Monday morning garbage truck race started. It wasn't quiet any longer.
A great ride. I noticed leaves starting to pile up on the new bike trail. Fall is here.

I bought a new Cannondale CAAD9 5 and had to try it out. Friday around here was nice, just a little windy, but coming home from work on Sat. night, it was my first ride in cold weather. It was 9c or 48F. I had on leg warmers, and a cheap rain/windbreaker, and full gloves, and all was fine. I thought for sure I would be cold by the time I got home, but nope, very comfortable.

It was very foggy today. I had a decent ride with the new Nishiki, but it wasn't perfect. Got chased by a full-grown pit bull (first time that's happened) and took a longer route, which meant I missed making it in the back gate before 7:00, and had to ride my bike through a field to get to the front gate. Overall, not bad, but if I spot that dog out next time, I'm not going to be happy...

Another fine day, and very light traffic thanks to Columbus.

Loved that schools were out today. I pass by several on the way so the traffic was much lighter. It's warmer this week, just shy of 60 F when I left and going up to mid 80s F during the day. Back to wearing shorts on the way in and doing the full change. Every week something keeps my from getting in a no car to work week. This week I have a package at a FedEx facility that I have to go pick up. Naturally it's only open 8-4pm so I've got no way to do it by bike.

I'm currently in the process of starving myself before totally stuffing myself on turkey this afternoon. No commute today, but I already made up for my missed Friday and today by doing 2 days worth of commuting on an eyeballs-out hammerfest yesterday.

Rode the kids to school again today. We took the more direct route that requires us to go over a 6% grade RR overpass. My daughter has a little 16" single-speed bike and a backpack. She's done it before, but never on a school day, and this morning she said that she thought she was ready to try it. When we got to the top I told her what a great job she did and she said it's hard but it's worth it because she loves to coast on the way down.

crazy weather! I had a ton of stuff going on last week and could only commute Monday and Tuesday.
Ride in was stil warm enough that I rode in with a short sleeve shirt. Still trying to hold out on the better lighting but it is just too dark now at 6:45am. Charging my headlight tonight for the ride in.
Ride home was nice 84f at 5:45pm .

Last two commutes have sucked. Rack failed on the way home yesterday, falling off the back of the bike and dumping my pannier (with laptop) in the middle of a busy street. And today, realised I had a slow leak on the way in -- but have lost my portable pump.
On the up side, my Ortlieb Office Bag looks no worse after falling off my bike and being dragged along the asphalt for a couple of meters. And my laptop seems OK, though I made sure to back up my files last night.

A completely different commute today, and no bikes involved. I started out in Davis Park, Fire Island, NY and walked 4 miles to the Fire Island Pines at 6am because there is no ferry from Davis Park back to the mainland at that time. The Pines ferry left at 7:25. Fire Island, for those that do not know, is a barrier beach on the south shore of Long Island that is about 30 miles long and nothing but sand. There are no cars, nor bikes, and it is very quiet, except when the bands start playing at the pubs. There are houses, (and its good to have friends with a beach house), and not much else to do but sit at the beach, eat and drink.
I arrived at the Pines at about 7:10 for a 7:25 ferry. I then took the LIRR to Hunterspoint Ave in Queens and the subway to Manhattan. I walked along "Burma Road" which takes you from Davis Park out to a small group of houses called Water Island, then walked on the beach to the Pines. At The Pines, I stayed on the boardwalk as my legs were pretty much shot at that point from the sand. I forgot how 'gay' the Pines are. You forget what 'normal' is when you're there. I'm completely straight but it is interesting to observe. (Not that there's anything wrong with that...)
All in all, a good day of exercise but no riding involved. To keep it on topic, I used my Planet Bike headlight as a flashlight. It was bright on Burma Road but I still couldn't see off to the sides.

A warm day today, so back to the short sleeves and no jacket at 59 F ( 15 C). This is my first day back since last thursday. I remember going out into the bright sunshine and a mild breeze on my last day of work before a 4 day weekend, and there it was, a flat tire. I had just replaced that tube the week
before, so I pumped it up and got about a mile, before I had to deal with it. Appar the beer bottle neck that caught my back tire two weeks ago, slit the tire as well, so over the week the hole got bigger and pinched a hole in my tube. I had an extra tube, so I made it home without any mishaps. Picked up a new tire before I went on my camping trip. It says puncture resistant, so we shall see how it does on the highway bridge of broken glass.
