Coldest commute this morning (27 F) since last spring, and it's supposed to drop into the teens over the next few days. It felt great to me since I have plenty of cold-weather gear. I actually like it better when it stays cold like this because it's easier to dress for than days when it's cold in the morning and warm in the afternoon.

Got snowed out of my normal long weekend ride on Sunday. We don't get much snow in NC and rarely in December, but it snowed 1-3 inches on Saturday afternoon and night. I was out riding when it started and cut my ride short because it was getting hard to see after a while, but I managed to get in 16 miles. Unfortunately, the roads weren't totally clear by the time of the weekly Sunday morning group ride, so I stayed home. Good thing because the group had a big crash with several injured. Sometimes common sense pays off.

Just beat the rain, which is nice, because it was so warm (53F) that I decided to ditch the jacket. My quick and dirty fender installation (just zipties) didn't work as well as I'd hoped. I'll have to get p-clips, as I have in seasons past. The zipties just don't have enough rigidity.

-4C/24F and snowing. First snowy commute of the year. Would have been perfect if it weren't for all the potholes and cracks under the 2cm of snow.

Good commute this afternoon at 29F and mostly cloudy with light snow flurries and winds from the WNW @ 19mph. Wunderground says that I had tailwinds, but to me they felt more like crosswinds and offered me very little help. Stopped by my friend's work on the way home to show her my panniers because she has been asking about them. When I got home, I was happy to see that my package from nashbar came in. Now I'll have shoe covers and a balacalva for whenever I need them.

Cold this morning (mid-30's) but relatively nice on the way home (mid-50's) with a tail wind. I also got my helmet mirror dialed in. Makes a big difference...!

Bikes: fixed gear recumbent trike

it was lame... i was feeling great and really moving... but, on the way home, my hack (see pic) to get full fenders on my fixed gear "track" bike broke leaving the fender dangly, dangly.

gonna have to find a frame with rack/fender braze-ons for the commute

12F/-11C this morning, coldest I have experienced in years, I had to pick the year to start cycling with the worst winter!
Some parts of the road are dangerous, lots of ice now, preferred cycling in the snow..
Don't want to give up, Can it get much worse?

Cold at 22 F ( -5 C), then windy to make it bit colder, but no precipitation, and that is a good thing.

The last 2 days have been very windy, highs only in the 30s with windchill in the 20s. Today gusts are again predicted at 40mph. Decided to take the folding bike + messenger bag instead of my big cruiser + panniers, to be more aerodynamic. I really fought the wind yesterday.

We're having the coldest December cold snap in years for NC, after much higher than normal temps all spring, summer and fall. Temps in the lower 20s F this morning with high expected around the freezing mark. I love it! Maybe it's my Minnesota blood, but I much prefer riding in the cold to heat and humidity. I've even figured out how to keep my glasses from fogging up at stop lights, after many years -- just move them out onto the bridge of your nose and that does the trick.

weather said 14F wind-chill. Definitely felt like it too. Slow going into work since I decided to hop on a treadmill for the first time in 5 years yesterday. Cardio-wise, I had no problem doing a fast 2 miles. Physio-wise?...not so much. Would have been a nice recovery ride if I wasn't trying to hammer it as much as my legs would let me in order to keep warm.

One thing beside motorcycles that you gotta becareful in bangkok are Tuk Tuk, they can turn really quick and able to come out from anywhere without warning. Many times i didn't see them because other vehicles blocked from my eye sight.

33f foggy and wet, got back on the kuwie after two full weeks riding the giant with studs, i had forgotten how fast and smooth the kuwahara rolls ended up 15mins early. I had gotten so used to leaving way early because of the snow.

-6C/22F and lots of snow on the ground (more than an inch...). It was a slow commute as I had to walk half the way. The roads were relatively clear (much more so than the sidewalks and the limited bike path-age) but my route is along a busy street and I can't take the lane without forcing buses and trucks around me...

Edit: I was halfway along the stretch of bike path with the deep snow in the picture, when I thought this would look cool in a picture. Stopping was a mistake as I couldn't get the momentum to get going again. Luckily the sidewalk between the path and the street was clear enough for me to get going there.

Yeah, definitely an unusually cold Dec here in NC. Today I learned that my windproof gloves may be windproof, but are not warm enough, time to get some liners. Same goes for socks.

I'll have to try the glasses trick as mine didnt cooperate with the balaclava today.

On the cool side still (for around here) this morning with temps in the upper 20s, but with 30+ mph wind gusts, the wind chill is much lower. It wasn't bad where I was somewhat sheltered from the wind and in the few short stretches where the wind was at my back, but most of the time it was a headwind or a crosswind. The extra pair of socks and the third tee-shirt (long sleeve) under the fleece made it a comfortable ride in, though.

I have to work Saturday this week, which is a bummer on the one hand, but good on the other, because on the return trip back on Saturday afternoon, I'll pass 3,000 miles commuted for the year! That's exciting. Since this is my first whole calendar year commuting (started in April 2009), it'll be my first time to hit that milestone.

Warm December ride in this morning at 7C/46F this morning. I finally got my rear wheel pulled far enough back in the dropouts to stop the studs from rubbing the chainstay when pedalling hard. I had to remove the axle adjustment screws to do it. Now I want the colder weather back!

Beautiful sunshine and 49F. Just a perfect day for riding. On the way in, I passed a girl on a purple single-speed who was wearing tall boots and a wool coat. She could have easily been from copenhagencyclechic.com.

First commute in the snow this season! Had the studded tires mounted on the Mongoose and tore around on snow covered streets and trails. Less than friendly NW wind on the way in with a about -12C wind chill factor. But it was a blast on the way home and even found one of my missing gloves!
