Nice riding weather. Upper 40s, dry, sunny, with an ever-so-slight headwind off Lake Champlain. I have the Continental Traffic tires on the Trek now. (Sort of dual-purpose on/off pavement - fat, low drag knobbies.) Now I can take other ways home. I get bored riding the MUP and/or roads day in & day out.
A woman on a road bike came out on the MUP in front of me. I reeled her in without trying, and gave her a friendly ding of my bell before passing. We exchanged hellos. Then I reeled in a woman on a mountain bike with bags and stayed behind her until we left the MUP. I passed her, and saw a lot of broken glass in the road so I pointed it out to the woman.
Eventually, road bike woman came up behind me at a red light and ran it.

Today is pretty much my last commute to school till early September. It was an excellent ride in at 47F and sunny with almost no wind. Had to leave my house earlier at 6:15 this morning instead of my usual 7:15 because i had my first final at 8am. It was kinda nice cuz there was a bit less traffic on the roads. I have one more final at 10am and then i'll be done for the semester.

Nice ride in. Winds calm, and just a little drizzle along the way... just enough to keep me cool.
Hope it stays the same way for the ride home.
I like it when the roads are just wet (but not too puddly) like thwey were this AM. It makes the sound of the tires rolling along as you pedal that much louder. What a beautiful sound that is, too...

12C, almost no wind. Nice cycling weather. This afternoon is supposed to be a scorcher at 27C (that's pretty hot for around here in May).

I rode in on the Ueda Trail today. It's beautiful and I had it all to myself. But the wind kicked my butt. Hopefully it'll stay the same direction so I get a fast ride home.

Today's commute was a 'WTF' commute. As in, WTF is up w/ traffic? Why's it so snarled? Ah, because Con Ed stuck a traffic horse in the middle of the street, funneling 4 lanes of traffic into two. Once past that, it turned into the usual commute complete w/ clueless drivers doing the brake and swerve into my lane when they realize they're about to miss their turn, cutting me off in the process.
Not today, but yesterday, I witnessed a car w/ NJ plates actually make a left on red. I informed him that it's illegal by yelling in his window as I rode past him. It probably sounded something like, "whooosssh moron! whoooosssh".

Some good stories, fellas. I don't know about that bug, Buzzman. What if it were a bee, you could have died if it stung you on the way down.
That 25-30 mph wind that kicked my butt on the way in this morning was GLORIOUS on the way home. I was going 30 mph in a pocket of still air. It was as fast as I could physically go on that bike without a cliff to go off of. Top gear, spinning like crazy.
Usually, there's no wind in the morning, and a stiff headwind on the way home. I'll remember this biking day for a good long time.
You have it even harder in Kansas. 30, gusting to 50... Wow. It's hard to even stand up in a 30 mph wind. One would be better off walking the bike to work, then getting a free ride home from the wind.

LOL The wind would be at my side most of the time and with how much it goes in diffrent directions, one would not know where it comes from.

Oh, yeah. Today was very nice. On my way in it started to rain lightly, then when I went to unlock the door after changing, itwas porring! I am glad I got there when I did. The ride home was beautifull. I love to see all those big puffy clouds. Not to mention no sun to blind you headding east. Tomorow should be just as nice, as long as the storms hold off until the afternoon or evening.

The trick with geese is never to appear afraid of them. There were geese on my ride today. If you aim for them, they figure out that they're going to lose any confrontations. Make some roaring noises too. They can't possibly hurt you, unless you get one in the spokes. They have round beaks and no claws, and they weigh what, 20 lbs? Be the aggressor, and you won't have any more trouble with them.
When I'm on foot and geese start getting aggressive at me, I open my arms up wide & high, roar at them, and charge. It literally scares the crap out of them and they turn tail pretty quickly.

50F, gray. Got to work as the skies opened. Hoping for some suckerholes for lunchtime errands.
(work)day 1 of my wife's 5 wk trip, so it was all me getting the kids moving. Managed to get into the office only an hour late. If we can keep improving from there, I'll be happy. But whatever, it's not like I'll be too unhappy if we can't keep improving from there...

also, am tha-rilled with my new v-brakes (replaced the canti's finally). Not sure if I am most happy with the 2-finger braking, or the new bar tape that is so nice to leave the remaining fingers on, but either way, it's a totally new tactile commute.

Riding easy on the fixed gear this morning. On 21st Street a guy on a Brompton blew by me with his briefcase bungee corded to his rack. He's probably on the Folding Bikes subforum posting about how he dropped the roadie.

Finals are over and so is school for the semester. Great commute heading home at 75F and sunny with winds from the E @ 6mph. When i was going thru the town before mine i noticed a bicyclist on a nice looking road bike a little bit behind me. I was coming up to a traffic light and it had just turned red. I stopped and was hoping the fellow bicyclist would stop as well so i could make some small chat while waiting for the light to turn green. Instead they just blew thru it passing me on my right
. About 1-2 minutes later when it turned green, i started to go and could see them a ways ahead of me. I was slowly closing in, but they turned down a side street further up and i continued to go straight.

Great commute today. I was late for class at University, but the class started late, so I was on time then. Fortunatelly, most of my teachers let me leave the bike inside the classroom!

Today I took my upgraded trike and biked to work. The morning commute was fine. It's getting to be like a normal routine.
I'm cycling a little faster and using snatches of road rather then staying soley on the sidewalk now.
I'm breaking in a new saddle and although I was pretty uncomfortable during the weekend, I was a little less sore today.
Cycling back home was a trip though. I rode in the rain. My first time.
I rode slowly but not slow enough it seems. I actually tipped over. Oddly enough it wasn't the rain that made me tip over. It was those damn flying love bugs that are out in force in Florida now. Ugh! Nasty things.
I had on a yellow puncho for the rain and those bugs went for it like a cheap hot sheets motel. Every five minutes I was swatting them away from me and the puncho. Yuck!!!
My little accident happened while I was swatting one very amorous couple away from my face, I hit the side of a curb a tad too hard. BANG!!
So, beyond being sore from the new saddle, the rain, the flying copulating bugs and the tipping over, my commute was strangely ok. I can hardly wait to do this all tomorrow.

I left the house at 4am this morning. Way early for me as I am new to commuting by bicycle. But it was awesome. My coworkers were dragging their feet and groggy and here I am pretty lively. It was awesome. Coming home I didn't take the same route to work as I would be dealing with a six lane 50mph road. Not bad at 4am though, flew right down it. I am not sure if I'm going to ride tomorrow, I'm pretty sore after getting the bike Saturday and have already put about 80 miles on it.

Grab about eight of those geese and we'll light up the smoker! Allow one day for the breasts to soak in 50/50 Worcestershire sauce and Soy sauce. Then we can smoke them for several hours at low heat. That is just a dream..................... as they are out of season now.

Great commute in today. Rode in all dressed up in jacket and tie.
Rode home and had time to break out the road bike for a quick 25 miles. Total for the day- 46 miles. Ah, the blessings of more sunlight!

I had a great commute in. I averaged just over 18mph over 10.25 miles, which is pretty fast for me. My way home was a little slower. I ran over a rabbit for the first time. Fortunately for me I didn't crash. The rabbit was injured, but wiggled off into the bushes and I couldn't find it. Sad...

It was wet drizzly ride in with temps at 8 C ( 47 F). My clothes didn't get too wet, mostly a light cover of wetness. I had shoe covers on, so that kept my shoes dry for the ride home. Considering how much rain has happened this week, I have not gotten too wet. Friday looks like a good day for the national bike to work day. I hope to take a group to another building, so it will be something different from what I do every day. Out of that maybe just one person will ride all or some part of the year.

We had 3.5 inches of rain yesterday. Fortunately I drove. It was showering heavily when I left for work and pouring on the way home. The rain continued until the early morning hours today, so I slept in and left for work a hour later than usual when the rain had finally stopped.
What a difference a hour makes. Traffic was much heavier, and I actually got buzzed by some jerk in my own neighborhood. Leaving my house, I have four 90-degree turns within the first 0.2 mile. The jerk got behind me and apparently wasn't happy that he couldn't pass me right away and it slowed him down by 5 seconds on his morning commute. He finally sped around me, leaving about 6" to spare. Never mind that there are kids walking to school.
Despite the bad start, I had a great commute with a tailwind almost the entire way.

Haven't posted for awhile. Nice day for a ride, but heavy traffic. I'm beginning to suspect that the new traffic cameras on RT 12 have diverted truck traffic over to my route. Also some construction work generated mile long backups. I was taking it easy, but I think I easily crossed Mundelein faster then the cars.
Replaced the battery in the Cateye odometer and solved my ongoing problem with the unit. Still doesn't explain why it only failed in cold weather on one of two bikes. I wish these things had some type of battery/signal strength indicators on them.
